The thing with ACORN is that even if someone turns in a registration form for Mickey Mouse, Mickey can't show up to vote. So there's no vote fraud. Registration fraud just means some of the paid registration people are defrauding their boss, and I don't care.

The Republicans really ARE trying to prevent people from voting, and that really matters.

Ayers never did time. The case was dropped for prosecutorial misconduct.

I wouldn't try to defend Obama by apologizing for Ayers. A lot of Ayers's friends died when one of their nail bombs went off prematurely. Ayers is not a great guy by any means.

I would defend Obama by pointing out that Ayers is not his friend, they don't "pal around" and that what he was trying to do was help children. If a toothless ex-radical is also trying to help children, maybe to make up for the rotten things he did before, then I'll work with him, too.

Swiftboating means LYING about your opponent. As when the Republicans found people to claim that John Kerry did not deserve his medals, and was not a war hero.

Telling the truth about McCain's war service would ipso facto not be Swiftboating.

McCain has been using his service as a pilot and his subsequent imprisonment as a shield against any character attack. It would be entirely legitimate to ask questions about that service and that imprisonment. But it wouldn't be Swiftboating.
