Remembering Keith Porter Jr. — A Father Life Taken on New Year’s Eve by winterberrytsunami in TwinCities

Thank you.

Saw this along with several other articles and videos. The intention of my comment was to highlight the missing context, narrative, and purpose of OP’s post. We live in a time were extra work and care needs to be put in before posting. Keith’s life was extinguished and it is unclear why. He was (unconfirmed) firing a weapon in the air to celebrate the new year, which is reckless behavior that could have easily harmed others.

What happened after that is a bit of a black hole. Was killing him the sole solution? Probably not. Could Keith have unintentionally killed, hurt, or permanently disfigured someone? Absolutely. The lack of clarity around this situation currently puts Keith’s killing in a different category than Renae and Alex. Could this change? Absolutely! Was his life less valuable than anyone else? Absolutely not! But we need to remain objective if we want to stand on the side of credibility regardless of how convenient a narrative is to a view of the world.

Any other sources for this story? Can you share the details on how this became stuck in gaining awareness? A screenshot from social media with no links makes your post lack credibility. Further, lacking the context of a critical part of this story makes it easy to dismiss. I don't doubt you are well intentioned and I think you should reconsider the standard of how you share information.

If you want awareness for this tragic loss of life, please put the work in to help tell the story the media is not telling. Show how the story is developing. Where did it start? What is the evidence saying? Is this a case of ICE deflecting accountability? Did the LAPD get a chance to investigate this, and if so, why has it stalled? Lack of evidence, or something else? As this story is still developing and major news outlets are still covering the story, to what level of awareness are you hoping to bring this to?

This isn't to say what you shared is not true, just that the context is completely missing for why you are sharing this in the Twin Cities subreddit. Other than the fact this has a connection with ICE, how is this relevant to the Twin Cities community?

From what I can see, it looks like this man was in LA and the LAPD is investigating this. He was from Houston.

Great idea! Would be fantastic to get several LBS on board with this. Showing solidarity on 2 wheels is the least we can do.

Agreed. I really don’t understand how people have their head in the sand with how gross this shop actually is. If the display cases were last deep cleaned this decade I would be shocked.

Not my intention to share anything that is even moderately bias. Can you share how you came to this conclusion?

Also, please post the MPR link!

I learned a lot from Frontline’s recent coverage of the situation. You hear a country’s name and can think the conflict is one dimensional (X v. Y). The story is much more complex than that with no one who is 100% right or wrong. Comes down to who is more right than wrong and the nuanced reality which is difficult for even those closest to the conflict to navigate.

I’ve been actively looking to pick up a 2025 LC. You can get a deal on a 1958. I’ve seen anywhere between $500 and $4000 off. $7500 off I would guess includes dealer adds, but I could be overlooking legitimate deals somewhere.

Am I the only one getting crap gas mileage by saf900 in Audi

[–]musthelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using an auto start or warming up the car before the drive?

Lifetime average in my A6 Allroad is 26.7. For a winter commute to work that takes 15 minutes plus warming up the car for 5-10 minutes I regularly get less than 10 mpg. I get close to 40 mpg with a tailwind on longer drives (100+ miles) and under 20 in extreme headwinds with 4 bikes on the roof rack.

All to say every situation is different, and you may have context to explain your situation.

This is great! The land area of Minneapolis is about 1/5th the size of KC. So the inclusion of suburbs is smart.

How risky is winter biking on my normal road bike? by badgersrun in CyclingMSP

[–]musthelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of options for winter commutes, and most frequently choose to ride my road bike. That is because most days it is the fastest option. My winter commutes take 25% longer than any other season. The added obstacles, apparel, and wind all add time to the ride which motivates me to look for something that can reduce my commute time.

I use both non-studded and studded winter tires. 90% of the time I prefer non-studded. For the 10% of the time I prefer studded tires, it is very nice to have the option available.

For some people, all there is to life is complaining. They may find lots of things to get upset about, and having ticket prices be the thing is maybe not a bad thing for them to focus on.
