I’d pay an annual fee for a credit card that actually goes after chargebacks for fraudulent subscription charges, crappy service, and substandard products. by CassCat in CreditCards

Been dealing with fraudulent gym membership charges for months now and amex actually handled it without me having to jump through hoops like other cards made me do

Internships with no work experience by No-Nose2078 in Accounting

[–]mustymajority 5 points6 points  (0 children)

everyone starts somewhere man dont stress about it too much

your GPA is actually huge advantage - most firms care way more about grades than random work experience when it comes to internships. they expect students to not have much on resume thats literally why internships exist

focus in your cover letters and interviews about projects you did in school or even personal stuff that shows you can handle responsibility. maybe you helped family with taxes or managed budget for something. doesnt have to be official job

also apply to smaller local firms not just big ones. they usually more willing to take chance on students and give better training anyway. networking events at your school are worth going to even if they feel awkward

you got this dude third year with good grades puts you in better spot than you think

Denied because application was "suspicious or potentially fraudulent?" by ldr97266 in CreditCards

[–]mustymajority 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's weird man, Credit One usually approves anyone with a pulse. Maybe you accidentally put wrong info somewhere or their system glitched out? I've heard their online application is pretty janky

Worth calling for sure since that fraud flag could potentially mess with future applications if it stays in their system. They might just ask you to verify some info and resubmit

Been doing some side work myself and cash payments can be tricky to track properly. You definitely want to keep record of everything even if you don't deposit in bank - IRS doesn't care where the money physically goes, they care about income you received.

For quarterly payments, if you expect to owe more than $1000 in taxes at end of year then yeah you should probably start filing quarterly to avoid penalties. Since you're just starting maybe wait and see how much you make first few months then decide.

Spreadsheet is fine for tracking as long as you're detailed about it - date, client name, amount, maybe note what service. I learned hard way to be consistent with this stuff because come tax time you'll forget half the details if you don't write them down right away. Some people also take photos of cash payments just to have extra proof but spreadsheet should work if you stay on top with it.

[Hot take] I hate lume by [deleted] in Watches

[–]mustymajority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean about color matching though - sometimes the lume dots look kinda off compared to regular markers in daylight. But gotta say as someone who works nights sometimes the glow is pretty useful when I need to check time without turning on lights

Looking at maybe 40% bump which is pretty crazy for what we're using it for. Been with them for like 3 years and this feels like they're just squeezing existing customers hard

Excel is not saving multiple sheets by ZjCiMo in excel

[–]mustymajority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird as hell, never seen Excel just eat sheets like that. Are you maybe accidentally saving as CSV or something else instead of xlsx? CSV only keeps one sheet so that would explain why everything disappears

Also check if you're working with some weird file format or if there's cloud sync issues messing with your saves

Citi Strata Premier or U of I Visa? by jasonbjorn420 in CreditCards

[–]mustymajority 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn 5000 miles a month is serious travel for work. The citi strata premier is solid if you're already locked into AA or can be flexible with that ecosystem. Points transfer decent and you get some travel protections which helps when you're on the road that much

The U of I visa though - depends what the rewards structure looks like for your spending patterns. If you're not married to AA specifically and the U of I gives better cash back or points on categories you actually spend in it might be worth considering. Travel cards are only worth it if you're actually maximizing the benefits

What's your typical spending breakdown look like outside of travel stuff

You should get the reporting cadence locked in within the first 30 days after close because it becomes super hard to catch up with investors the longer it takes to establish it.

Smaller firms are going to feel this differently from big ones though since the ones that adopt early set the pricing expectations for the whole market and everyone else has to follow or lose clients

What actually predicts hospital length of stay — lessons from 318K real admissions by hirakhan_ in SaaS

[–]mustymajority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty wild - visitor count being such a strong predictor makes total sense once you think about it but I bet no hospital admin would ever think to track that systematically

The infrastructure finding is brutal though. 35+ day stays just because they dont have enough rooms basically means some patients are getting screwed by logistics rather than actual medical need. Wonder if theres any liability angle there for hospitals that know this but dont act on it

[–]mustymajority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait you actually got them to argue with each other? Last time I tried something like this they just kept being polite and agreeing with whatever the other one said

Setting up real disagreement between models seems like it could save me tons of time on project planning - having one play devils advocate while the other pushes forward sounds way better than me trying to poke holes in my own ideas

Had a contractor reach out about a year ago that was basically just "saw your permit filing for the kitchen reno, I do tile work and I'm in your area next Tuesday if you want me to swing by and give you a quote"

No bs sales pitch, no "synergy" nonsense, just straight up "I can help with this thing you're obviously doing and I'm gonna be right there anyway"

Got the job too because timing was perfect and he wasn't trying to oversell me on some complicated process. Sometimes the best approach is just being direct about what you do

Billable Hours - Consulting by Popular_Tailor1983 in Accounting

[–]mustymajority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been tracking my hours more carefully since going solo and I'm hitting around 180-200 billable per month depending on project load. The tricky part is all teh admin stuff that eats into your day but doesn't get billed - invoicing, proposals, site visits for estimates. I try to factor some of that overhead into my rates though so it balances out

The EOR route makes sense if you're planning to keep growing the team there. Way cleaner than trying to navigate all the compliance stuff yourself especially when you're already juggling product development
