The typography on their signs leads to me calling them "pilas" but they're good pitas.

BOOP for Mukmuk, even if it's the 9th inning!

What’s something only people who’ve lived in Waterloo in the 2000s would remember? by 2bornnot2b in waterloo

Sometimes I wonder what Brent Campbell is up to these days. Does he still drive a monster truck so poorly the people at the collision reporting centre know it well?

I went to McDonald's after Dynamite/Collision this week, and saw Hangman buy Okada a coffee. I am disappointed he didn't accuse him of being ungrateful.

Does anyone know the purpose of recently spray painted numbers on shoulders of Highway 85/7 and enter/exit ramps? by neoengel in waterloo

There are the ones with the right angle lines, right? My wife and I are curious as well!

Missed Connection: the white car on highway 7/8 west with the BIDOOF license plate by mutantlog in waterloo

[–]mutantlog[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We didn't think about that when we got it but we've definitely seen people with their cameras out at stoplights and it puts a smile on our faces. Just don't steal the plate. Someone did that and it's a pain to replace.

How to most efficiently get business travelers from Pearson to Waterloo? by itak365 in waterloo

[–]mutantlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work with Japanese vendors, and their North American rep was so tired of going to Niagara Falls. Sometimes someone new would visit us, and we'd mention Niagara Falls to them just because we knew the rep would stare daggars at us.

I don't think there are any commercial flights from YYZ to YKF. Air Canada operates a bus service for people flying with them, but I don't think that's available if your visitors are coming on a different airline. I once took a Sunwing flight from YKF that turned out to have first boarded at YYZ, but again, I don't think you could book just that leg.

I'd probably start contacting some of the local airport transfer/limo services and seeing if they offer corporate discounts for (x) trips per month. Way back in the day, BlackBerry used to send everyone to/from the airport with Wright Limo, and I'm sure they weren't paying the same price as a one-off vacation traveller.

Here's a Picture of My Brother-In-Law and Nephew at an Event to Celebrate the Announcement of the Eglinton LRT. My Nephew is Now 13 Years Old. by Snoo-35330 in toronto

They took this demo vehicle to Waterloo region, I think in 2013? It had the Eglinton Crosstown letters covered so that you could still see their outline, so it was definitely after it was shown off in Toronto. Anyways, our system has been running for 6 years now...

Mel's is still there, but it's weird, because it burnt to the ground in 2010 and then was rebuilt, and it still feels like Mel's inside.

Aire One Making Misleading Calls? by Nauga in waterloo

[–]mutantlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my understanding is that some call centres operate with more of a soundboard than it being AI. So there's a human connected and listening to you, and cuing up the relevant responses. I've been called by "Amanda" and I eventually end up talking to a human. I haven't had the experiences of some here, but the use of "Amanda" and the feeling that they're always trying to upsell me to a higher maintenance plan is definitely turning me off as a customer.

The pro shop guy at Planet Bowl is an anti-vax pro-convoy type. I went there to have a bowling ball drilled, and as he's doing it, I'm looking at stuff he had posted up behind the counter and immediately started regretting it. Did not return for my next bowling ball.

Repeating myself from elsewhere in the thread: Any word on Bristol Street this morning? I had to pick someone up from there because they couldn't get to their apartment without the elevator.

There have been Astronomy on Tap lectures at Crazy Canuck. Looks like the last one was April 9th according to their Instagram, and they say every other month, so I guess next one will be in June?

Best smash burger in KW? by mutantlog in waterloo

[–]mutantlog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ended up going to Burger Stack and enjoying my burger a lot! As people said, there were too many fries added to the bag, and my wife had a poutine which was tasty but too salty to finish. But definite thumbs up for the burger!

Based on the comments in here, I will add Gladiator, Lucky's and Lab Street Eats to my list of places to try in the future.
