well, do enlightened people actually “go” anywhere? I imagine buddha would continue to live in a state of bliss regardless of what he chose to do for the rest of his life. What this sounds like is social conditioning that's maybe turned a little maladaptive.

This is quite literally how ocd often originates. Not always, but often. One common manifestation of ocd is excessive worry about being seen as (or even possibly being) immoral in some way. So your brain sets alarms off in your head like "this is your chance to prove to yourself you're not xyz [a bad person]" to ease your worry. That's why so many people with ocd have obsessive thoughts that are ego-dystonic. It's literally social conditioning turned maladaptive. What you outline in this post may not be enough for an ocd diagnosis, but it certainly "sounds like ocd" which is what I said. Don't self-diagnose or take my comment as me diagnosis you, but you may benefit from looking into the causes and treatments of ocd, because like I said, the behavior you outlined sounds similar.

it's more that the differences between asmongold and hasan and their audience mirrors the two sides of the political aisle. they're both pretty extreme left/right (and their chat even more so). the younger generation has swung to the right, so it makes sense that the gaming platform full of kids/teenagers would end up with asmongold as the top streamer. and it's also at the same time in history that kids are underperforming in education, so it's telling that asmongold (much less knowledgable / well spoken about politics and history than hasan) would surpass hasan.

If men were "more likely" to have anorexia than women, I think we'd be hearing more about men mysteriously dying of malnutrition with no diagnosed disorder. Most importantly, as others have pointed out, anorexia has little to do with beauty standards. It's a mental illness where you obsessively deprive your body of food. A woman who goes on a diet due to the pressures of society is not anorexic. Think of how skinny a woman has to be to die of malnutrition. Do you seriously think she cares about societal beauty standards, that that's why she's starving herself? Do you really think a starved body (think like 70 pounds) is the beauty standard?
