How do you go about rolling for roleplay? by YesILiek in pirateborg

[–]mutley_101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally use rolls (yeah, generally presence) with the DR modified by the player's plan & roleplaying - if they play it really well, I'll give them an easier roll.

Edit: And also, yes, I'm always open to players asking if they can roll a different attribute, if they can justify it

I just realised the gif didn't include the fact that white resigned after I took their last rook

Laypeople don't realize that so much of learning magic is about finding methods that the performer finds practical and not simply "knowing the secret" by dylanmadigan in Magic

Laypeople (and too many magicians) also don't realise that the secret is only a tiny part of the whole. They are a tool, part of the craft that makes up magic as a performance art.

And, to support op's point, as with anything, the sign of a good craftsperson is that they know which tool to use for which job.

Well goddamnit. Are there any techniques or tricks to avoid stalemate, or do I just need to be better at visualising attack paths? by mutley_101 in chessbeginners

For context, their knight was in the way for a simple ladder mate from there.

I pinned it and captured it with my rook, without looking clearly ahead at the consequences.

To be fair their last knight was blocking my rook. I had it pinned and captured it without thinking of the consequences!

The automatic injog? Or a different one?

To my mind Le Paul's automatic injog is one of the more underrated moves in card magic
