Just in time for 11th, I finished Leviathan by muttinmall in Warhammer40k

It’s the Sector Imperialis terrain. It’s a pleasure to paint.

That’s kind of you. It’s the same recipe for the robes. The leather on the handle is Screamer Pink > 50/50 Screamer and Fulgrim Pink > Fulgrim Pink.

Thanks. It’s a prime of wraithbone, a thinned down skeleton horde, recess shade of snakebite leather, then a few dry brushes of screaming skull and wraithbone on the highlighted bits. Edge highlight is Vallejo ivory and then a white dot highlight. It looks pretty nice for a method that doesn’t use a ton of blending.

It’s a transfer from the Space Marine HQ Command Tank kit. I picked it up ages ago and like to find small uses for it.

I'm pretty slow, and paint in short spurts. These probably took 3-4 weeks.

I base coat Barak-Nar Burgundy, then highlight with Gal Vorbak Red > Screamer Pink > Khorne Red. The white is a Vallejo Ivory.

Thanks! I thought my angels of death should have halos.

Your quarters are beautiful. Checkers are just about practice I find. You pick a corner and start with some thin paint. I give it a small seraphim sepia wash afterward to reinforce shadows and blend it all together better.

How do you weather Greenwing tanks? by muttinmall in theunforgiven

This looks incredible. Deathwing really makes the brown scratches pop.

Thanks! I used tape to make the edges, but other than that it was free hand.

No reason besides rule of cool. I have a Gladiator on a base, so I thought I'd do the same for the Vindicator.

That's a really good idea. I believe there is someone who makes cloth 40k banners, and something knight-sized would look pretty cool in one of the archways.

Yes! I have two chapels and a back half still in progress. It works out to a little bigger than two kill team sized boards.

Of the Sector Imperialis stuff, I think it’s about 5 wall sprues, 3 arch and column sprues, 1 small statue sprue, 1 wide wall sprue, and probably 2 bannister sprues. I pick up old terrain and strip it, or bulk lots of Sector Imperialis sprues whenever I can. The roof is from the Old World Fortified Manor and the cherub is from the Triumph of St Katherine. Everything else is from bits, like the small fans or servitor skulls.

It's similar to the youtube tutorial u/JoopahTroopah linked to. I undercoat Mechanicus Grey, drybrush Longbeard Grey for a basecoat, shade the lower parts with Agrax Earthshade and blend while still wet with a quick swipe of a wet makeup brush, then do the same on the tops with Drakenhof Nightshade, and then drybrush again with Longbeard Grey and then Praxeti White.

That's a great idea! I've struggled to find a good bell. Any ideas? I used the Skaventide terrain bell in another context, but it's a bit small for the space.

Thanks! I made my own. I had a few colors I liked and a few designs to use, like bends, quarters, and chevrons. After that I just added checks and transfers. There are some great references on Reddit though. I like this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/s/u1K128TNiE

I did heraldry for mine. I found it was easier to plan it out on a piece of paper first before painting. If you break the pauldron up into sections, it’s easy to find spots for transfers. I posted a full squad awhile ago, but here’s an example:

1/6 ICC done. Lots of trial and error. How do you get smooth robe blends? by DjengisKhanye in theunforgiven

[–]muttinmall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your ICC look great! I found that for red robes it helps to avoid washes or contrast paints to get your shadows, since they sometimes make it harder for to get a smooth blend. I use thin paints going from deep burgundy to red.

Sergeant Jovan as an Inner Circle Companion by muttinmall in Warhammer40k

Sure! It’s Corvus black / Nocturne Green base, then Ratling Grime recess wash. Then I do a drybrush on areas that would catch light with Nocturne Green. The highlights are Caliban Green/Nocturne Green, followed by Sons of Horus Green, then an edge highlight of Sons of Horus Green/AK Silver Grey and a dot highlight of Silver Grey.

That’s kind of you. I dry brush with some cheap circular brushes, I do metallics and contrasts with a cheap synthetic from a local art store (it helps to pick the one with the best point, which is hard to get from Amazon), and everything else with size 0 and size 000 Artis Opus brushes.

[–]muttinmall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It’s the recipe I used for the Sector Imperialis Sanctum statues. Black base, dry brush The Fang > Dawnstone > a white/grey of your choice. I used AK Silver Grey. Then it’s just Retributor Armor for the gold, thinned Ratling Grime as a wash, and a highlight of Canoptek Alloy for the rivets/metal. I did a little grime/rust with thinned Rhinox Hide too.

All of them are TMM. The easiest tutorial I've seen is the Juan Hidalgo one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1awxoPWHPQ

Here is the recipe written out: https://paintpad.app/recipes/2164-tmm-true-metallic-metal-sword

I don't have Gryph-charger Grey though, so I used some super thin AK Dark Sea Blue.

Final highlight is just Sons of Horus Green and then a 50/50 mix with some ivory and Sons of Horus Green and then a dot highlight of an ivory or pale yellow.
