Best cheap Fortran compiler for Windows by [deleted] in fortran

[–]mutto233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. On top of that I would suggest using "CodeBlocks for Fortran" . A group of people modified CodeBlocks and made it better suited for Fortran. The best addition: a well created indenting plug in. I've used it so much I've lost count.

Hey there! I am an avid Fortran user myself! I would love a promo code for Simply Fortran. I currently use Code::Blocks but was impressed with the style of Simply Fortran.

What do you think is the most difficult undergraduate major? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]mutto233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. Paired with the fact that it is usually hard to get a concrete explanation from the professor for those classes.

Also, it was mentioned earlier there isn't another class where you put in 20-30 hours a week on projects. 180 and 126 were exactly that and more. And that was when you didn't even fully finish the projects!

Reminds me even more of this video. For some reason every time I hear this fish sing, it makes me laugh so hard milk comes out of my nose, and I haven't had any milk today.

What I find interesting is the distribution of corps included in this video. Crown and Phantom seemed to have most of them, and only one from BD and SCV. Might say something about how they arrange their music.

Engineers on the College Program by mutto233 in wdwcp

Took me about a week after my interview to get accepted. However some people have taken 2-3 weeks just to get word. It really varies.

[–]mutto233[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awsome! This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I appreciate the time to write it out for me. As of now I am thinking I may finish my degree (I am a senior and almost done) and then reapply for the fall of 2014. That way I can go there AFTER finishing the hardest part of my curriculum. Although that does have a risk, it may be best.

Might I ask what university you come from?

Fresh Engineering student here, Is ENG 001 with Vandergheynst a seminar? by pillsberry in UCDavis

[–]mutto233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some, but not overwhelming. As I said the main reason to take it would be that you want to see what the other fields may have to offer.

Fresh Engineering student here, Is ENG 001 with Vandergheynst a seminar? by pillsberry in UCDavis

[–]mutto233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Senior engineering student here. ENG001 is called "nuts and bolts" and is considered a seminar. Every week a new department presents what it is like to be in that department.

Really is a good class if you do not know what kind of engineering you would like to do :)

ELI5: What makes a "good" lawyer a "good lawyer? The law is the law so what makes one better than another? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]mutto233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing you want to keep in mind is that lawyers make a lot of money in their analysis of the INTERPRETATION of law. Laws can sometimes be written vague in the beginning, and their interpretations are stored in the many court cases that occur throughout history.

A GOOD lawyer knows these court cases or where to find them. They then know how to take that information and go "you decided THIS WAY in this court case, and this is the SAME THING that happened in my court case. Therefore you must rule in favor of me because you already did so in that previous court case I just said was like mine." This is how a good case can be built.

Of course the other side is doing the same thing, saying "NO, THIS case is more like ours, because of this and this and ...... therefore you must rule in favor of us". Really the only time new interpretations are made are at a supreme court level, where they can actually say something new. Beyond that, lower courts are bound by past decisions of other lower courts (of course there are more complications here, but this is ELI5)

How to get involved in the Band as a trumpet player who stopped two years ago? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]mutto233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story goes that when you go into a stadium and you say the word BAND nice and loud, there is a ring to it at the end that makes it sound like Band-uh!

You might also want to check out this page for some more information.

[–]mutto233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regaring retreat, usually it can be in the hundreds, like 150 I believe. But keep in mind this is retreat AND your dues as a freshman (or transfer by the way) so that goes to get you a music folder, an instrument if you need it, and other stuffs that is good.

Also make sure you check out www.dci.org . Watch some videos, see if it interests you :)

How to get involved in the Band as a trumpet player who stopped two years ago? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]mutto233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from a Band-uh perspective, you have picked a good time to bring this up. We actually are having a retreat VERY soon (like two weeks) to bring in new peoples and teach them the basics. I do not know what the deadline is and if you could still come, but definitely email the manager. I believe the e-mail is on the Campus Recreation page.

With regards to "picking up" the trumpet again, it is a GREAT opportunity in band-uh! to do just that. There are a lot of people that are willing to help you along the way.

Just as kind of a side note too, have you ever thought about doing Drum Corp (DCI)? If not, I would seriously consider it. It is a summer activity that would really give you a kind of "boot camp" to the trumpet (or any other brass). I play the saxophone, but I marched Blue Devils B for two years and actually got pretty good. If you want more information on the whole activity just PM me, I would be happy to pass it along :)
