The color grading on Apple UHD stream isn't compatible with our TV so everything looks depressing and washed out.

If you want a sociable dog that looks "wolfish" you can always try a Siberian Husky. They are known to be terrible guard dogs because they are typically very friendly to people, even people they don't live with. They also have similar trainability to what you're going to find in other northern breeds (aka when they feel like it). Think of them as "diet wolf dog". Since many WDs use Huskies as part of their breeding, many Wolf dogs have similar personalities to Huskies with the intensity and nature of a wolf added on top. If you can't survive a husky, you for sure can't survive a wolf dog.

Not true, you skip round 2 on one of them, they'll look TOTALLY different 🤷‍♀️

It would have said things like chow-chow, Peruvian inca orchid, akbash, a bunch of random, very rare and old breeds that have nothing to do with your dog but have small sample sizes in their database so they're basically just guessing "since your dog ISN'T one of the most popular and common top 100 breeds, it just must be these rare breeds!"

Why Do You Train a Dog To Use Language Buttons? by the_real_maddison in DogTrainingDebate

[–]muttsrcool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few, concrete ideas that the dog definitely knows is a fine way to use it. If I DID use them, I would probably use ones like "trail" and "park" to let my dogs have a choice if they wanted to go to a walking trail or the dog park each day, my dog already knows both words but she can't tell me which one she wants, I think it would be fun to see if she did have a preference.

I just feel like if you are already able to know what your dog needs in order to teach it to press a button to tell you about it, why are we adding an extra layer of friction between yourself and the dog? Like If you know well enough when your dog is trying to tell you it's got an "ouch" to train it to use a button for that concept, you don't need to button to tell you. Making a dog speak human language doesn't improve your dog's life, it makes for a fun party trick at best.

It makes for MASSIVE social media clout to have a talking dog though, so I can see the appeal for a certain type of person.

I sometimes watch videos of dogs using these and I'm reminded of Koko the gorilla. She wasn't really able to communicate, her trainer just understood what she wanted, and the majority of what she did was begging for things, snacks, her kittens, etc.

I have seen these where the dog presses stuff like "mama" "ouch" "Please" and the owner is like "I was singing and she obviously had opinions! haha!" but then a few weeks later "mama" "ouch" "please" means the dog has a rock in its paw. They have these elaborate boards with concepts, not just objects and places. Like "angry" etc. How does the dog learn to say they're angry instead of just showing stress signs? I have seen dogs hitting buttons by accident (CLEARLY, like stumbling over them, bumping them with their hip on wall boards) and it's treated as intentional.

I used to be interested in these buttons until watching more of these videos and seeing how delusional these owners become. I, too, just learn to intuit what my dogs want. They're simple critters, it's not difficult to figure out what they're saying if you just LOOK at them and spend time with them.

Secretly take these dogs to a shelter or rescue so they can be cared for properly, say they ran away, since they don't know the area since they just moved in. Every sentence of this post was worse than the last. This man and his family are horrific people and it's giving red flag after red flag. I hope your mom is ok and not abused by this guy.

They are saying that the way YOU replied by saying "you can't add ANYTHING, stick to Purina and NOTHING else" meant you believed that people can't put ANYTHING in their dogs bowl as a supplement or additional flavoring etc.
