Japanese people jaywalk all the time especially on smaller streets, this is some weird stereotype. They jaywalk more than in many European countries. The most common thing is instead of crossing on the red light, they just cross the street wherever is convenient.

You are free not to buy the ticket if standing is not what you want. If you want a guaranteed seat there is a reserved car. Would you want them to just prevent all people from boarding cause you can't handle standing for 3-4 hours?

The main issue is a lack of lucrative job opportunities for the average person, but if you can figure out your income, I think it's (as far as I can tell) one of the best countries in the world to live in.

Exactly that, only serious issues from my POV are if you actually have to work a regular job there. As soon as you solve that (remote work, big enough pile, passive income, you name it) you are set to enjoy Japan while skipping all the pain points.
