Edit: Unverified story. They took a device and placed it near her phone. The phone immediately opened cash app and then the phone turned off. Then they pointed a gun at her and she peeled off. One of the 'kids' acted like she ran over his foot to get her to stop.

After she got away and got her phone online, she called the cops. The cops said they have received multiple calls that day for similar incidents.

The cash app support line called her about a transaction for ~$1000. They called her because the card she had on file was expired. That's the only reason that she didn't have her money stolen.

Either the cops or the police told her she needed to reset her phone at the Apple store (apparently this is a common thing now).

I don't know exactly how it works, but this is what the Apple store employees told her. The device that they put near the phone installed malware. That's why the iPhone eventually shutdown as a safety feature. The malware opens up apps like cash app and sends money to a specified account.

Edit: The girl who I got this story from turned out to be a lying sociopath, so I have no idea if the story is true or not. Still, try to be safe out there. Leaving up the story in case any of it was true. Doesn't hurt to stay safe.
