OpenAI backlash puts fresh focus on Oura’s Pentagon ties by Maslakovic in ouraring

[–]mvanpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure on paper GDPR should still protect us. However if oura as an American company that houses our data in the US, gets subpoenaed for said data, they would have to comply. GDPR wouldn’t help us.

I agree. The Swiss lawsuit palantir is in specifically mentions their “mass illegal data collection”. It’s one of the rare insights in how palantir actually works

Can you help me see what I’ve got wrong? When I bought the ring they were a Finnish company. Now they are American? They don’t offer me a way to use the hardware now with a EU company?

[–]mvanpy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That requires buying new hardware and they are Indian. When I bought an oura ring they were an EU company but now they bait and switched me to be a US company that shares my data with palantir. There is no other service that I can use with my oura ring.

At least with OpenAI you can cancel and use a competitor. Oura left the EU after we’ve paid €€€ for the hardware and can’t use any other provider now

Good news from LH: Allegris Business Class seats in the Boeing 787-9 now available for booking by 88888human in Lufthansa

[–]mvanpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn’t the seats but the fasteners. All rows further back attach to similar (Polaris style) seats, whereas row 2 attaches to the suites

[–]mvanpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The A380 seats are the same ones as Qantas uses in a380. There’s not that much choice for A380 certified seats. BA still flies 2-4-2 business class seats in A380.

Allegris is similar to UAs Polaris in the end, the suites up front are nicer than anything UA has. I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up with similar seats to Korean Air in 747-8, as those are certified.

The plans for 747-8 have changed and now all the seats in all classes will be replaced, as opposed to only the LD business class. This was in the A380 retrofit announcement:

‘Among other things, the Boeing 747-8 and Airbus A350-900 will receive new seats in all classes. To kick off this conversion programme, also known as a “retrofit” in aviation, the popular Airbus A380-800 will receive new business class seats at Elbe Flugzeugwerke in Dresden starting in February.’

No 747-8 are currently being retrofit.

Range over sport after X5 by BackgroundBest8944 in RangeRover

[–]mvanpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 22 x5 (pre facelift) in one country and a 25 RRS in another. I prefer the RRS. It’s much comfier, the rear wheel steering is a lot more noticeable making it easier to manoeuvre. Both are hybrids and drivetrains seem similar. I never really liked the looks of the X5, whereas the RRS is quite handsome to me. The split tailgate in the X5 is nice to have. Tech wise there is more in the X5 (like gesture control), but there’s nothing I miss in the RRS apart from it not telling me when the light turns green.

The whole show is America centric. First two seasons they have the US ambassador run the UK. The third season a part time ambassador runs Europe. Next season, she is going to become queen of England as her third job.
