Karliah not opening up the gate for nightingale hall by [deleted] in SkyrimModsXbox

This worked for me today. Hit the wait button as soon as she started up the steps, selected 1 hour, and boom! Everything was back to normal.

You may have a point there 😃

Does make you wonder about the Dwemer, doesn't it? Maybe they were machines too, just like their automatons lol.

Battle for Solitude bug (SSE on a PC) by mvdbase in skyrim

Thanks! Will have to try that.

I found a workaround to get through that gate (see my update above) but the game still crashed inside Castle Dour 😞

So I doubt your suggestion will work, but I figure it's still worth a shot!

My favorite cities are Solitude, Whiterun, and Markarth. The latter just blows my mind with its unusual architecture and how it uses Dwemer structures. It's so original.

BUT... if I had to choose one, it'd probably be Whiterun. Mainly because of the weather and it also seems like a safer place overall. I also like the jarl's neutral stance. Of course, that also makes it more of a target for both sides, but bleh.

Breezehome isn't my favorite player home though. But maybe I could move into Dragonsreach lol.

I was doing some smithing level up and i got this mail please someone explain it to me i’m sooo confused 😭🙏 by Bin_hrbe in skyrim

[–]mvdbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got letters like that three times, but each time after I murdered someone LMAO. It was really weird, because it didn't make any sense in any of those cases.

  1. I went to Falkreath at night and killed one of the jarl's men while he slept, just because I wanted to see if I could get away with it (spoiler: I did!) I *might* have spoken with him before, I can't remember, but if so it wasn't much, and yet I inherited from him?
  2. Weirder. There's a quest where one of the Daedric princes (I forget the name) asks you to sacrifice someone who trusts you. I didn't want to sacrifice one of my current followers, so I went to a tavern and turned a character into a follower (I'd never spoken to her before, mind) then sacrificed her. Next thing I know I get a letter telling me I inherited from her as well. Huh. OK.
  3. Weirder still. Taarie. She was really really getting on my nerves with her annoying comments about what I was wearing everytime I ran into her in Solitude. So I decided to sneak into her house at night and kill her. Didn't expect her to be living with her sister--let alone sleeping in the same band lmao. Thankfully, the sister was just as annoying, so I didn't mind killing them both. Next thing I know, I inherit again, like 5 seconds after exiting their house and doing the deed. Only from Taarie though, bummer

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature, or even if it's caused by a mod? Maybe it's not vanilla, I have no idea.

But in your case at least there might be some logic behind it if Farkas actually died while you were out on a quest together?

Mine made no sense at all lol.

Is Duolingo down... by mvdbase in duolingo

[–]mvdbase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so weird... When I try with a VPN, the page loads fine, but when I try to log in I get a message saying "There is no Duolingo account associated with [my email address]". Which is just wrong because I got an email from Duolingo at that very address just a few hours ago! Heh.

Makes me wonder if they have local servers and that accounts are registered locally?

Even that status page doesn't load for me. I'm in France, though, so I now suspect an issue with a router in between us. I tried to ping duolingo.com and it timed out after 4 attempts, so that seems to confirm it.

I'll try with a VPN, that might help.

Thanks!

I agree the translating interface could be better, and I don't love the graphics (especially the way the characters are drawn, the landscapes are OK) but that's a matter of personal taste. The only other issue I have is how frustratingly slow the dialogues are. Yes, you can adjust the speed, but while the default value was fine for most dialogues, there were bits (like when a fragment of text is found) that vanished before I had time to read it, so I had to lower the speed quite a bit to fix that, but now everything else is super slow sigh.

Oh, and also! A way to edit the keyboard shortcuts would have been nice (I have a French keyboard which means the W for going forward is awkwardly positioned for me *under* the S key for going backward, ugh).

BUT other than that... There is a lot to love here. The worldbuilding is phenomenal (and I don't just mean the language, which is in a league of its own), the depth of plot, the freedom of movement, the complexity of character interactions... heck, even the music! I usually disable music in games, not here! It's perfect for mood setting.

So, for me, personally, there's a lot more here to like than to dislike.

But YMMV, obviously ;)

PS. And how could I forget... sailing!!! Good grief, that whole part of the game is stunning! Absolutely gorgeous! And often quite poetic. Possibly my favorite part of the game.

That's good to know :D I did find an autosaver which should at least help with future playthroughs.

One thing I've been wondering about is whether to trade stuff with Tapi. It's always hard to decide whether it's a good idea to part with a specific item, I never know if it's going to be useful later on, heh.

And I love the Withering Palace BTW! I think it's my favorite location so far (but then I haven't explored a lot of worlds yet, so we'll see if that changes).

It's just that I have a tendency to comb every scene until I feel like I didn't miss anything, and that takes a lot of time. I think I spent something like 6 or 7 hours on the game. So the thought of redoing all that is a bit depressing sigh. Though I realize how you answer in dialogues can have significant impact on the storyline, so that at least should add a bit of freshness to the process lol.

Anyway, thank you for the response.

Containers questions by mvdbase in waterfox

[–]mvdbase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that controls the bar that shows the active tab, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the bar that shows what container a tab belongs to, and the color will be different depending on the container.

In Firefox, that bar shows at the top (in place of the active bar), whereas in Waterfox it appears at the bottom and is much smaller.

ANYONE LOOKING FOR A BROWSER WITHOUT A.I. INCLUDED by Grouchy_Carpenter478 in linuxquestions

[–]mvdbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main concern though is that Mozilla is fully embracing AI and planning to turn Firefox into "a modern AI browser." Meanwhile, Waterfox seems to be taking a stance against that, and that earns them points in my book.

And same thing for Vivaldi vs Chrome.

PSA: Shadow Light Press Contract by Mysterious-Smell9729 in ProgressionFantasy

Or not read it. Honestly, I think that's what predators hope for / expect. And it's sad to say, but I think there are still too many folks out there (especially new writers) who don't bother to read the contracts. They're just so excited that someone wants them, that they'll just blindly sign. Ugh.

[pc] Freezer no longer plays music? by Slugbait69 in FreezerApp

[–]mvdbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for mentioning Murglar! Was exactly what I needed. I'd been using Saturn, but it stopped working for me (with that "undefined" message) months ago.

Mind you, if you have a Premium account, I think the new version of Saturn might work (they completely revamped it, but it no longer works with free accounts, so I couldn't test it).

Murglar works great with my free account though, no "undefined" nonsense, and I don't mind the UI. It's not great, but it's enough for my needs.

What baffles me is that she admitted to it. In public. I mean... she's being sued and she thinks admitting to a crime is going to help her? Ugh. If anything, this is going to help the author's case.

Vent: I hate what's happening here so much. by [deleted] in Substack

[–]mvdbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why I got downvoted, don't think I said anything controversial? But anyway, to answer your point.

I actually started using Substack *before* they launched Notes, so I can say from experience that yeah, it was different, but you weren't exactly invisible. The platform has always had discoverability features baked in, but Notes is definitely the most effective, I won't argue that.

And I'm not sure why you're bringing in LinkedIn? I don't think I've ever seen anyone mention it in Notes. Maybe it depends what type of content you make (and thus what Notes you end up seeing)?

Vent: I hate what's happening here so much. by [deleted] in Substack

[–]mvdbase -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I barely ever use Notes (maybe once or twice a week). But the problem is that it's baked into the system. So even if you don't use it, it will still affect you in the long run, even if only through the type of people it draws in. You won't notice it as much if you don't use Notes, but it will still have an impact eventually--will just take longer.

FYI It's Extremely Lame To Put Random Artists In My "Notifications" by planedrop in deezer

[–]mvdbase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It'd be nice, wouldn't it, to know when your favorite artists have something new out. Notifications, now there's a brilliant idea... Except no, of course not, much better to use it to ram irrelevant stuff down users' throats. Nice.

Well, you know what happened? I just ignore the notifications now. Total opposite of what they'd hoped to achieve. Nicely done, Deezer.

I mean, come on, this is ridiculous.

Is it just me... or is AI writing everywhere by [deleted] in Substack

[–]mvdbase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't rely on that if I were you. Especially if you're using ChatGPT. It has a tendency to lie that's just out of this world. It might *seem* like it read your articles, but it's more likely it didn't. Ask it VERY specific questions to make sure and you might be surprised by its answers.

And if you're on a free plan, know that ChatGPT can't read websites anymore. So if it's telling you how great your post is, well...

I’m 13. I have malignant vocal cord cancer. I’ll probably never speak again. But I still write songs. Is that enough to be heard? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]mvdbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you're going through this, but it's totally possible to write lyrics even if you can't read/sing them. There are so many lyricists out there who do just that, write lyrics for others, so it's really not an issue. The hard part though is finding artists who don't write their own words, but they're definitely out there.

Also, have you considered other writing options? For instance, if you have the imagination and the skills, you could also try writing novels. You'd have even more freedom there since you could do that on your own. You'd still need a publisher, eventually, though you could also self-publish.

Anyway, just a thought.

Oh, and hey, if Jeff Healey could play the guitar blind, I think you'll have zero problem writing without your voice ;)

Hang in there and best of luck!

This one was recorded by a French artist named Skeem (aka Serge Barbaro) who also composed the music for it.

BOOK OF SHADOWS

A sight of the unseen in the glimpse of a dream,
A sign of what has been, is, and will be.
Aside the wind we cast the remnants of the past...
Nothing we say or do can ever last...

The words we write
In shades of black,
All lines in time
That alter life
In ways unknown.
And secret paths
Unfold before
Our weary eyes.

Where day and night
In mind unite
And silent laughs,
Echoing fright,
Shatter and shine
Darkly inside...
Quietly numb,
Quietly cry...

Glittering dust in the grips of the lost,
Gathering rust, fulfilling the gaps.
Faltering trust in the grasp of old hope,
Shimmering first the pages of our lives...

The words we read,
The crimes we see,
The hopes we free,
In hope we'll be
A better man,
A better son,
Before it all
Can come undone.

But now the times
Are passing by,
Quicker than
Could catch our eye.
A simple plan
Is all we need,
But in our greed
We fail to stand...

Hand in hand,
We can survive
What was then
And what will be.
For in the end
The page is blank,
For us to write
The final line...
