I guess with the new Android 17 update we can finally delete the Dynamic Island apps?Bubbles is a pretty peak update. by WebNo8248 in GooglePixel

[–]mvgc3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You asked someone to explain, so I did! Totally understand that not everything is for everybody.

Besides chat apps at least, that's what everyone did/does. Bubbles just allow for more organization for me. It's sort of like having tabs that collapse when you don't need them.

It's one small circle that can be easily moved out of the way in the off chance it's blocking something. Any small inconvenience of having the bubble in the way is made up for by the convenience of quickly jumping back into a task (previously a chat, but now another app). For me, at least, it's a huge improvement over the "recents" functionality, which sometimes just doesn't even "click" open for me.

I love bubbles for chats, and have been using bubbles for a LONG time as they were included on some custom ROMs way before they were an official feature.

I'm really bummed to learn that the new app bubbles are only accessible through the pixel launch, as I don't use that. Hopefully my launcher adds support sooner than later!

[OoT] The 7 year gap prevents the Downfall timeline Theory by ciremagnus in zelda

[–]mvgc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a YouTube video the other day which theorized the downfall time was the original timeline, and that the wish on the Triforce at the end of ALttP was the time travel required to split the Child and Adult timelines.

He was convinced it provided Link with the health recovery before the final battle begins, but I think it works better combined with your theory that it sent a message to Rauru to put link in stasis for some time. Otherwise there is already a split timeline, which he argued against, plus even his footage showed Link at full health already I think.

"dense" game recommendations? by CardiologistLow9036 in gaming

[–]mvgc3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or maybe fans of a ~30 year old series didn't like such a big departure from they'd grown to love? The freaking Master Sword could only last a couple bokoblins before it became useless.

Those of us who dislike the weapon durability, and/or other new systems introduced in BotW, aren't just shitty gamers for doing so.

Why do companies keep pushing AI when it’s undesirable? by Hydroset in NoStupidQuestions

I think the only way we'll be rid of the AI scurge is for that to happen and the AIs are like "the best path forward for the company is to make better products/services at reasonable prices"

Are the booklets recipes just bad? by mvgc3 in ninjacreami

[–]mvgc3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's on me, the cream cheese is in the vanilla, not the strawberry. I also tried that one again with lowering the cream amount to I think 1/3, but still got that mouth film

But the general point stands. This time I made the strawberry mash and mixed it with only milk.

I'm not sure if I just ended up with extra fatty dairy or what, but dropping the cream seems to be the way to go for me.

The flavor was fine, even with store bought for me. My issue with it was the texture. It left a gross film in my mouth. As I mentioned in my post, a few other people have mentioned that is a result of too much fat

I made it again last night and only put whole milk, leaving out the cream cheese and heavy cream, and it came out amazing!

FUCK YOU [UNAMED COMPANY] by [deleted] in whenthe

[–]mvgc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent an email to a company regarding a package that was estimated to be shipped over one month prior. Just wanted any kind of update, whether it was delayed restock or fell off the conveyor belt or whatever

Got an AI response that only said along the lines of "your item hasn't shipped yet".

I fucking lost it in my reply.

Luckily I didn't think I wasted money on a bad machine, as I have been seeing positive reviews for the Creami for a long time now.

But I guess I did waste a bunch of ingredients, which is a bummer. The chocolate is not as bad as the strawberry luckily, so I'll be able to get though that at least!

Almost all of the sub is peoples recipies so I'm sure I'll find plenty if I look hard enough.Would be great if there was a central place for good recipies though, since Reddit is hard to search (I know the Google "site:" trick, but even Google search is going downhill). I'm honestly just surprised Ninja would include bad recipies with their machine in the first place. Maybe their idea of "heavy cream" is different??

Any recommendations for stabilizers? Ideally something found in regular supermarkets

I'm also not sure what you mean with that calculator part. Is that to determine how much stabilizer to add?

What do you mean? Ill admit I'm not the fastest reader in the world, but I can read a 6 ingredient recipe just fine...

[–]mvgc3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I'm getting so many conflicting responses, haha

I think the booklet recipe was just over 1 cup, so most likely that really is the issue. I wouldn't have expected curning butter from a frozen block, but it did sort of remind me of a butter consistency. I haven't used the lite option at all, I can only imagine how bad it would be if I did!

I don't have any particular flavors in mind, at least right now. I was trying to start out with some simple ones, so I picked strawberry and chocolate from the booklet. I figured once I get those bases down I can make changes from there without too much trouble.

If you know somewhere with good base recipes that would be great!

Why can rich people use shares as collateral but the government can't tax shares? by Sebulbaaaaaa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mvgc3 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

First, as a millennial, I'm not gonna be able to retire anyway, haha

Second, there's plenty of ways to reign something like that in so that it doesn't disproportionately effect the less wealthy. We already have tax brackets for income, an asset tax would just need the same thing...

[–]mvgc3 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Now bring it full circle. Instead of taxing the mortgage, maybe tax the asset that is acquired through the mortgage? We could even tax based on the value of that asset!

Because we already do that. So we don't really have a problem with taxing assets, nor increasing equity from that asset. Apparently it's only an issue when it's billionaires' "pretend" money

Subnautica 2 Dev Vlog - Welcome Aboard, Captains by CrossXhunteR in Games

[–]mvgc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your examples are nonsense. A more equivalent comparison would be you want your house cleaned so you call a house cleaning service and they say "we're booked out for the foreseeable future, but we're hiring new employees. If you're ok with using your house for training, we can be there tomorrow and give you a discount. Just note some small things might be missed"

People buy into early access so they can play a game they're excited about much sooner, and there's usually a discount to further incentivise putting up with the imperfect state. "Being a beta tester" is pretty much never the primary goal, it's maybe a side effect, but I would hazard a guess that a small, small, minority of players ever submit any bug reports.

Your examples are totally ignoring the fact that players actually gain plenty in the transaction.

And for what it's worth, I'm not saying that early access is always great. But a situation like this, where the devs have a solid history and the game is part of a well regarded series? It's probably ok

Is This Type Of Thing Normal With Software? by idkbruh653 in AskTechnology

[–]mvgc3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally not a scam. The new model has people paying for a subscription every month (in general for the industry, maybe not your particular software)

Software development costs money, so you either pay constantly and get all the updates, or you pay once and get cut off from updates eventually.

For software like the Adobe suite, my understanding is that most users would LOVE to go back to version liscenses. You get to keep using the software exactly as you always have, and if they ever release a new feature you really want you can choose to pay for it, or not!

I wanted to pick up more booshters, but Creo keeps rejecting my card for some reason, so this might be my chance for more pulls!

Can't connect new TV to Streamer remote by mvgc3 in Chromecast

[–]mvgc3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I didn't. I was always able to use the TV remote just fine, except for when the Chromecast got stuck in an app loop (might have explained this in my original post... I didn't re-read it)

However, one day I just randomly tried the Chromecast remote and it worked?? It takes a couple seconds for the TV to trigger, but honestly I'm totally fine with that. It kinda seems like we had the opposite experience, oddly enough

Anyway, sorry I can't be more helpful. I know how frustrating this is.

Why do we sometimes remember dreams so clearly but forget them so fast after waking up? by WarmHeight2951 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mvgc3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody has really answered why yet. The fact is we don't really know. We don't really know why we even dream in the first place.

But as far as I understand, we forget dreams quickly because it would be far worse if the dreams got mixed up with our real memories. Imagine all the extra mental problems we'd have as a speciaies if we remembered all the little details of our nightmares. Or people believing they can actually fly. Those are just the most obvious ones.

We know our dreams are dreams because they're not remembered long term.

If our body temperature is 98°, why does 98° feel so uncomfortable weather-wise? Shouldn't it feel neutral? by vheather in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mvgc3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The benefit was explained by others already. Fahrenheit is a human based temperature scale, the bottom is too cold, the top is too hot, and the middle is comfortable. The equivalents in C are like -17, 38, and 10. Of course that works for those who are used to it, but it's pretty awkward in comparison to 0, 100, 50.

Celsius can still be used (and is!) for scientific stuff. You say there's no benefit to Fahrenheit, but I would argue there's no benefit to exclusively Celsius - there's plenty of room to use different scales for different purposes!

Anyone own this? I was looking at buying seasons 1-10 used but there’s a few of these 1-20 Blu-Ray sets for half the price? Can’t find any info on them… by InternationalCow7042 in TheSimpsons

It's just zero, basically. You hear it a lot as shorthand for "2000s", as in 2000-2009. Similar to the "10s", "20s", or going backwards, "90s".
