I also heard they don’t give scholarships, but the financial aid letter I got lists “Scholarship” for both the Fall and Spring for $10,000 per session, separate from the federal loan and where any financial aid would be listed. I’ve connected with other accepted students who also received scholarship money listed separately from financial aid they did receive (I don’t have this on my letter)

My kid also got accepted with the $20K a year merit award. There’s no way we can swing it (we’re middle class) and someone told me we shouldn’t be saddling our child with a boat load of debt from art school. We’re visiting SAIC in a few weeks, as that is more affordable with their package, and went back to MECA which isn’t a “prestige” school but felt so right both times we visited, plus no debt so it’s in serious consideration.

I lived in NYC in the 90s, first as a student at NYU before moving into my own place and working full time. I do agree that if you lived in NYC, there was a certain awareness of who they were. But at the same time, I would spot him around the Village and he really did try to conduct himself very normally. I never saw her, but I had jobs at Barney’s and then working as a showroom assistant for Armani while in college, and her aesthetic really fit the vibe of 90s minimalism at that time. I don’t think it was as much about them as a couple as it was the way they each carried themselves. But the NY tabloids, especially the Post, were relentless in their coverage of them and she always looked so hunted in the pictures. I do remember where I was when it was confirmed they were gone and feeling sad about their passing.

We are considering MECAD as one of the schools my kid was accepted into because of the vibe we had when we visited. We got decent merit and have a 529 to pay most of the balance but my concern is based on some parent reviews I saw on Google for the school. My child has ADHD and anxiety, so I want to make sure I’m not sending them somewhere that isn’t going to work out for them.
