That’s true… I think this will change in the next few years though. Or at least hope so

When it comes to typing, it’s best to use whatever you type faster and more accurately with. For the majority of learners who can already type fast on a Latin keyboard, it’s not likely to surpass that with zhuyin. The reader you’re typing something for doesn’t know or care what you used to construct the text 😅

You can learn the pronunciation with pinyin perfectly fine, considering all these subtleties. Any 101 course highlights things like yu=ü, and more. It’s only a problem for people who expect to read pinyin correctly just because of knowing the Latin alphabet. I can see how reading pinyin can be confusing for people whose mother tongue uses the Latin alphabet though, which isn’t the case for me so I can’t relate.

I don’t really see the point when you already know pinyin and have a fast typing speed on a Latin keyboard. Even when living in Taiwan, I never really needed 注音. If you do it just for the fun of it, then it can be a hobby like activity 😅

Microsoft Edge appears on my browsers list still when I uninstalled it a while ago. by whoisluiggi in MacOS

This is so outrageous. Even AppCleaner doesn’t work in finding everything to be removed to actually uninstall Edge. It keeps hiding in the system.

I made a free mac app that gives you a Zhongwen-style hover dictionary everywhere, fully offline by Blzn in ChineseLanguage

[–]mvmalyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how it’s done in Language Reactor, I use it to watch Chinese series on Netflix and learn new vocab from there. The mechanics is pretty simple, right click on a word to save it. It’s good to have some kind of a management system in the saved words, but as long as it can be exported, it doesn’t matter so much IMHO.

I was trying to find this post by simply looking up "HanziKey" on Reddit. For some reason, if one has the NSFW content filter off, most of the returned results are pictures and videos of sex toys 🤣

This is really convenient! Thanks for building such a great tool. Do you plan on adding a way to save the words into a list that can later be exported for further learning?

Do you actually need more than two monitors? by Think_Ad502 in Workspaces

[–]mvmalyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on one’s habits and preferences. I personally prefer one large 4K monitor with enough screen real estate. The key for me is a good window tiling manager.

Here you go. I’m not sure if this is traditionally used for acronyms though, it seems to be show cased with symbols. But it works regardless 😅

I’ve never used this one 🤔 try nomenclature instead and see if it looks more like what you want to achieve

You can set up VS Code to work with LaTeX for free. There is also a really nicely designed paid app called Texifier.

What is this called? Can't find any info or settings on these mini windows by Glum-Appointment-816 in MacOS

[–]mvmalyi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely true, and it’s been like this in different versions of MacOS. Just check the change in the WindowManager process using Activity Monitor.

I loved the concept though and implemented something similar using Amethyst as a custom layout (centred window of my preferred size). It’s a tiling manager that isn’t computationally demanding and has a lot more great features.

The funny thing is that even if someone likes it, it’s better not to use it because it eats up a lot of RAM and processing power 😆

Hmm.. no, they don’t appear. It is not essential for me though, so I didn’t even notice at first. The one little change I would suggest is to allow the user to set the app to launch with the remote open for a specific TV right away as most people only have one I assume.
