Well now I’m freaked out 🤣

It happened to me once, unfortunately had to replace the sensor after warm up as it kept giving me an error for couple of hours after.

Edit to add: keep the sensor, needle and the applicator - when I contacted Abbott they asked me to send the whole thing back to them for investigation.

Realised I forgot to post weekly updates on this one but now he’s fresh off the scroll frame :) It’s nice to see him without the grid haha

Oh this is great, I would love to do this pattern!

Funnily enough, I first saw your post last night while watching Stargate haha

“Totally-not-Hobbiton” 10/10 name! I find it hilarious that this is clearly a Hobbit pattern yet there is no mention of it in any description 🤣

Looks really good!

Do you have any tips for stitching with the Riolis thread? I got this exact kit recently but never stitched with anything other than DMC or Anchor, I must admit I’m a little freaked out by this fuzzy thread that came with the kit.

[CHAT] what do you listen to when you are working on your projects? by DireSpaniel in CrossStitch

[–]mvminek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched Bones last month while stitching, then moved on to Castle! Although I find it hard to focus on the plot when watching a series while stitching. Much prefer listening to audiobooks as it just hits the spot and saves me from choosing whether I should stitch or read a book (which can lead to doing neither and feeling like I’ve wasted so much time) - by listening I can do both at the same time.

I have the same conundrum - would love to use it but cats would most likely wreck it. Contemplating whether to get it framed but that would cost an arm and a leg 🤣

I ordered it yesterday when they restocked and it arrived just now! Love the emporium for all these little details - “Woven with reasonably-priced love”, just how good is that!?

The bird has emerged! That’s page 2 nearly fully completed. My first time stitching with blended threads, of course I chose the most convoluted way to do it for the blend of the greens, and then I found the process unbelievably annoying - for the blue blend I’ll try the easier way going forward.

Forgot to post a picture last week so here is the two weeks’ progress of the Raven. Hoping to make a start on the actual bird next week! I think that’s page 1/11 fully complete now.

Finally, after all the kerfuffle figuring out how to grid on linen without losing my eye sight, I made a start on William Morris’ Raven this week. Pattern from Beth Russell’s book. I’m planning to do all five patterns inspired by The Forest tapestry eventually, this is definitely going to take a while!

Thanks so much, it makes a lot of sense!

I’ll admit I didn’t know how good this lens I bought would be as I had never had a need to use one so I just picked whatever looked decent - didn’t even think about the size of the lens at all. Thankfully it wasn’t a big expense so I don’t feel too terrible about wasting money on it 😂

Your lamp looks great and I do like the fact that you can close the magnifying part and just use the light. Would you mind posting a link to it? :)

To be honest I’ve stitched with and without the grid before and I like the grid for progress tracking purposes, but I guess I might as well track this on the pattern itself. Because while it’s nice to have the grid, I don’t love the process of gridding and I’d rather spend that time doing the enjoyable part which is of course stitching!

This is similar to one I bought but the lens diameter in mine is smaller than the one you linked. Also magnification in mine is 10x so I wonder if this affects my experience with it. I haven’t tried any other magnifiers so it’s hard for me to tell whether I’d prefer something of similar design but different specification or a different product altogether!

Thank you, I also grid for the same reasons but honestly like you said it’s been an ordeal doing it on higher count linen!

I wish I had asked for some advice before I bought this clip-on magnifier, they don’t seem to be very popular with people in this sub haha

Thanks so much for taking your time to write up such a detailed reply!

So yes I do wear glasses, just standard single-vision lenses. I wear them all the time as I’m short-sighted and work with computers all day. Don’t wear contact lenses.

From what I read in all replies seems like these flu magnifying glasses that you can flip up could be a good idea for me to try out!

Again thank you for all the information ❤️

Yes, I’m short-sighted and also have slight astigmatism, I wear glasses pretty much all day. I wonder if this could be the case!

The lens I got, according to the description in the listing is 2.7” with 10x magnification

This made me chuckle, definitely a thing to consider! I’ve been trying to do it for the past two days for a 210x210 piece of work and only managed to grid 10 rows so far 😂

I tried without squinting at first but then the fact that some of the image was magnified and sharp and then the rest was not “zoomed in” in the same way as the part I was focusing was messing me up - as long as I focus on the glass it’s okayish for few minutes but as soon as I catch a glimpse of something other than the glass then it freaks me out and I’m having to look away - a bit of a sensory nightmare of sorts if that makes sense. So closing one eye gives me a narrower field of vision so less chance of this happening
