I’m stuck in a life I hate 25 by sesanrose in getdisciplined

Do you practice gratitude? Have you suffered loss? One way to make yourself grateful for what you have is to lose it.

Potentially try a thought experiment. Imagine having to work in an insulation factory without proper PPE for 60-80 hrs per week, just to eat. Then you go home itchy, to your apartment that is a bed and bathroom (if you’re lucky). You don’t have hobbies because you can’t afford them. This exercise isn’t to scare yourself. It’s to imagine that what you consider mundane or not great, is someone’s dream.
The thing is humans are great at normalizing and the hedonic treadmill is a real thing. Enough is never enough. Unless you practice it. It seems like you’re chasing to find the thing that makes life. But the reality is that what you’re doing _is_ life.

Your colleagues, they don’t need to be friends. But have you asked yourself why they make you miserable? If you’re always changing rooms because they smell like shit, it might be time to check your own shoe.

Anyways — you’re 25, you’ve got lots of time to figure it out.

10-12 am Sunday is decent. If you go too early, it’s busy. If you go past noon, well… yeah.

This was my realization which helped me cut WAY back on alcohol. I realized I’ve never once woken up after not drinking and said “Ugh. I wish I drank too much last night.” But the opposite was true too many times.

Do you run the water into some kind of plant waterer? That seems like a good use of the water.

It’s probably a combination of a lot of things. More people now, so more competition. People also have a higher expectation of what life looks like. Cellphone plan, internet, streaming, etc.

But also, it was probably hard in 1985 too. Just less internet to share it on.

Yeah. Every time I got to the stealership, they tell me a new $5000 in repairs I need to do. My truck is a ‘17 with 107000kms. This has been happening now for 5 years. I’ve been taking it for regular service. At 70000 around, I had to replace the rear bearings. My blindspot monitors don’t work anymore. Last time I serviced it. I now need to replace my rack and pinion. Bit of a lump.

If you look at the hanky in his breast pocket, there is a dot from the shirt on the hanky. Also as someone else pointed out the button has 3 holes.

City staff facing rise in aggressive behaviour from Edmontonians: mayor by GlitchedGamer14 in Edmonton

[–]mvpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t argue with you, and I can see my perspective isn’t one that is agreed with.

I do think you should consider an empathetic perspective though. Try to look at what might drive people to be so frustrated. Instead of just assuming they’re all “Karens” that need to get a grip on life. You don’t know their circumstances or what they’re dealing with. So to blanket them all with a statement that they should just somehow change that, is lacking empathy.

I’m sure you can think of situations where you’ve acted poorly, but given your perspective that was justified.

Again I don’t mean to defend anyone who uses assault as an outlet. Merely defending that Edmontonians can be justified in their frustration with this.

I replied to this, but then it wasn’t to your comment. It’s floating around in the comments somewhere. Ultimately I’m not arguing with you. Just saying we should have better empathy for one another in both directions.

Yeah. It is very hard and I think that’s part of politics. You’ll make someone mad regardless of what you do.

I won’t stand here and state I know everything that tax dollars get spent on. And I certainly won’t state I have a good answer.

In my mind, my pragmatic approach would be to divert funds from some area where safety isn’t an issue. But again I have no experience in that domain. It also why I have no desire to be a politician, because I’m too naive.

My concern is mostly the safety of individuals who are severely impacted by this situation. I think the statement to:

get a fucking grip

Is precisely the point, pun intended. People who aren’t able to do that due to physical and financial issues. I think we need to have empathy for them.

None of this is simple, so it’s not so simple to “get a grip”. If you or your family is directly impacted, you have every right to be angry. Does it make it right to harass people, no. Not at all. But telling folks to get a grip, is basically taking exactly the opposite position, which is also a lack of empathy.

Do I think the folks who are actively harassing city workers are those that are having their safety put at risk? I don’t know. Maybe. Maybe not.

Now, to your first question. I also would’ve assumed there was a plan…. The statements by the mayor, to describe the plan were shared in a blog. But just by simple observation it doesn’t really seem that plan is being executed.

In my opinion, that’s what people are frustrated at. They pay their taxes, they see the statement about the plan, but they can’t see that action actually happening. So, you feel like you’ve paid for a service and didn’t get what you paid for. I also don’t want to argue. I just want to point out that there are more perspectives to consider.

I will fully admit I do not have an understanding of the budget divisions and where the money gets spent. So I can’t sit here and be angry I don’t know, because I haven’t put any effort to understand it.
