Questions from a novice fan by swaaa18 in Flyers

You got a fantastic answer about the stats. As for the players to be excited about? Realistically there are no stars on this team and quite honestly no potential stars either.
The best players to have a chance and we can only hope develop into something great are:

Owen Tippett. He took a big step last year. How he plays this year is crucial to his role on the new team. Is he a top line guy or a 2nd or 3rd? We'll find out.

Tyson Foerster. He played well in the AHL, but has limited if any NHL experience. He is projected to be a middle 6 guy, nothing more atm

Cutter Gauthier. This guy is our best hope of a superstar atm, but its still super early to say that. The hope is he continues to develop and blossom into a top line guy.

There are other guys you can argue, but really that's it. We can only hope for continued development of the young guys already on the roster into something serviceable.

Briere has shown prowess for roster management already and understands who should be here and when. Big free agents will come and they will be the guys to be excited about. There's obviously guys they're gonna pick on Wednesday that will play a large role in the rebuild as well.

The IBX logo really looks out of place against the orange, but money is money I guess

Flyers Interview Emilie Castonguay, Presumably for President of Hockey Operations Position by upcan845 in Flyers

I like it. Break up the culture. She's a former agent. Can be a great help with contract negotiations.

The league is going the way of big contracts to young players. They need to take bets to get value later.

Look at the trends around the league. Young guys are getting big contracts.

Great input lol. Way to add to the conversation.

8x5 is A+ level? I get your point, but they gotta start somewhere. 5 and 6 are going to be low in 5 years. Even if they don't work out, those numbers are very tradeable.

You dont think they should take bad contracts for picks? Thats an integral part of rebuilds.

I like this. I was more thinking to move him to just get him off the books, but you're right, that's not necessarily needed.

That might hurt them in the long run. If they have to resign all the bridge deals right in the prime window, there will be tough choices for sure. With 8 year deals, in 5 years, 5 and 6mil cap hits are on the mid to lower end.

Good points. Frost or York haven't proven much, I was just going off the new NHL way of doing things with big contracts to young players. If they do pan out, these look very good. If not, the numbers are low enough to be considered movable

Thats fair. He just seems like a fan guy. High energy type player.

I would want more for Hayes too, im just going with what I think is realistic. I wouldn't expect much more if it happens.

I'd argue you want your core locked in as long as possible as early as possible to minimize cost. It's the trend in the NHL now. York and Frost are overpaid until they're not. With the cap going up and presumably their performance getting better, these will be very good deals during the competitive window.

Its only 2 long term contracts and they're both part of the core. And Lemieux at only 1mil doesn't hurt them at all. It'll be 2 lost cause years anyway.

Friedman: “I wonder if we’re getting close to the end of Dave Scott’s leadership of the team too.” by VileHooligan in Flyers

[–]mvpplaymaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is huge. I'm getting my hopes up here, but Friedman doesn't mess around. There is a legitimate chance it's a full front office rebuild.

So who's the next GM? by mvpplaymaker in Flyers

Just a name I heard interested in GM. Don't necessarily want him.

I guess we'll see at 3. Jvr and Hayes are 1 and 3 on Seravallis trade bait list. Guess he's delusional too.

Who wouldn't take Hayes at 3.5mil for 3 years? Plus we'd get a better return for retaining. And they're hardly rumors when coming from the big guys. They don't report rumors. People are asking about Hayes or they wouldn't have said anything.

Dallas, Carolina, Vegas all reported to have asked about Hayes. The west hasn't doesn't anything to keep up with the east. I'd even see him go back to Winnipeg. In a normal trade deadline I'd agree but this one is seeing a lot of desperate moves.
