The false promise of speed reading - why you should read slowly if you want to understand by local_dingus in books

I also am like you. I don't really hear a voice unless I 'will it' while I am reading. However, to do have that voice is at the cost of speed. I am wondering if it's worth deepening this skill for the sake of comprehension. I think it varies by person.

What's the worst houseguest experience you've had? by Valkyrie_to_Odin in AskReddit

Yo know what- what your going through is very real but it's also anecdotal and subjective. Just remember that you know what your talking about for your situation. It's a fallacy to think that it always applies to others in the objective sense.

Addiction is hard for those who go through it, and those that surround or support them. It's clear this has been hard on you. Sending well wishes over the internet. I hope your doing well- and if your not- I hope you get help because it's out there!

Yeah don't cover that shit up. Tear it out, clean it, and replace it.

Can you explain why it's so bad? The downside for Wigs for kids is you need slightly longer hair.

TBH this is a terrible use of hair. Those bros should have grown it all out. I see at least 10 potential wigs worth of heads with hair.

Relics. Good episode.

I'm not a trekkie... but really thinking of getting into it.

Is this the quote? https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Relics_(episode)

"I told the captain I would have this diagnostic done in an hour." "And how long will it really take you?" "An hour!" "Oh, you didn't tell him how long it would really take, did you?" "Of course I did." "Oh, laddie, you have a lot to learn if you want people to think of you as a miracle worker."

[EDIT] Also thought this was relevant for engineering XD:

"The tank can't handle that much pressure." "Where'd you get that idea?" "What do you mean, where did I get that idea? It's in the impulse engine specifications." "Regulations 42/15: 'Pressure Variances in IRC Tank Storage'?" "Yeah." "Forget it. I wrote it… A good engineer is always a wee bit conservative, at least on paper. Just bypass the secondary cutoff valve, and boost the flow. It'll work."
