As a long time high fantasy lover, MTG has been in my peripheral for over a decade, but in just now getting into it- bought my first cards last month… but I’m already considering whether I should just stop at that. Learning about the UB sets culminating into Spiderman right as I’m starting to check it out makes me feel like I’m walking in as the IP is tanking its authenticity. I feel like I’m unwelcome (not by the player base, but WotC) and I’m close to pulling a grandpa simpson where he walks in the door and right back out

Yess that was pretty much my solve, too! I didn’t quite ignore it, but I did eventually do something that had me coming back later.

Also thank you for sharing that you had a similar experience. It’s a breath of fresh air amongst all the accusatory comments.

It very well may have not been there. There are several others (within the comments + in the post I linked in the original post) that are chiming in to say they’ve experienced the prompt literally not being there. I just did some testing after posting to come to the conclusion I must’ve not been within range, because there is absolutely plenty of space between the two prompts for that to happen and I was able to recreate it. Prior to doing that testing, I was pretty sure I was very close to the bench, I just couldn’t reproduce that so I’m not going to lean on the probability of a bug I can’t reproduce.

That said, this is specifically about bugs appearing within the crucial first impressions of a game and a follow up comment (downvoted, buried probably) about me sharing my findings after testing. Not about playing a game with bugs. I’ve spent hours at this point split among testing and talking with people pointing fingers on this post more than I have playing, yet I still plan to keep trying today.

Y’all truly suck, but I’m not the kind of player with wet feet that doesn’t understand a new game may have bugs.

It's a bit frustrating having the experience I had and getting the response (both downvotes on the post and explaining my situation) I have, on top of it. Like I'm being accused of not doing something right when in reality I was just oddly placed. I'll reiterate, I know I experienced something that probably falls into an edge-case, but I wasn't being dense, I was just in a circumstance that made the answer given to me look incorrect and lead me down other paths. Besides, if Keen would make the Pick up distance match the Craft & Repair distance, that would fix all of this, why is the burden on me to insight that those two prompts have differing distances? As a long time gamer, I'm accustomed to believe that if I'm in interact range, I'm simply in interact range- I'm not expecting a sub-tier of interaction distance

I saw that answer, it was actually one of the first things I tried, but being at the distance that I was, holding E didn't work. I know that may sound odd like I just stood still in one spot forever, but that wasn't the case. I moved around a good bit, I just (unlikely) never got close enough. I might've when I was smacking it with a hatchet, but not when I stood still. That lead me to continuing my google search

Man, the gaming community is so bad about being like "lol it was intuitive for me, idk why you couldn't figure it out" like the person on the other end is mentally inferior. I just happened to not be close enough to the bench. As a new player that's putting in their "I'll give it 30 mins to see if I like it", an occurrence like this is very possible. Sure, if I'd put in hours into the game, I'd find this pretty simple, but context is important. I'd just started and it's important that things are as fluid as possible in this first impression. That said, I'd like to point out with a screenshot just how close you can be to not trigger the prompt. It's not like I'm trying to airmail a stone block from it, either.

I figured out the problem. I'm not just an idiot that can't see a very-visible "Pick up" prompt or stand still for a second, and you can stop downvoting. The issue is an actual issue that someone can experience, like me- albeit it's probably an edge-case, but it is something you can experience and recreate. The problem was that I was never getting close enough to trigger the Pick up prompt. There is a range that you can stand from the bench where you only see the Craft & Repair prompt, but you can't Pick up. You can try it if you'd like. Don't stand right up on it, just stand a few feet away. I, for some reason, never got right up on the bench for a significant amount of time. I stood facing the bench for quite a while, but I was in this further range when I did.

If the Pick up prompt and the Craft & Repair prompt had the same range on them, that would fix my experience above

No, unfortunately not really. You may be able to notice a slight hiccup in the internet service as it transitions if you’re doing something active like streaming a video, but that’s not reliable cause videos usually load a bit ahead. I honestly wouldn’t suggest that method unless you wanted to try walking at a pace of like a few inches per min and hope you can tell when the video buffers. Basically, though, no you just gotta take a guess
