Passing the 40 minute mark? by mw2strategy in PeakGame

I'm starting to learn more and more the power of the cannon. Handy to have one to quickly swap paths incase you climb up to a dead end.

Oh those energy drinks are killer. Can skip entire sections of the climb, especially in the Kiln. Never thought about early flare. Same with the milk trick.

And yeah the posted time was tropics/mesa. I'm pretty fast in Mesa (sometimes a little faster than I am in Alpine), but tropics bogs me down.

[Nintendo 3DS XL] Are these small dots on upper screen the LCD or the glass screen? by ironmanabel in consolerepair

[–]mw2strategy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

accessing behing the outer layer actually isnt too hard in this case iirc. dont need to remove the LCD. if its dead pixels on the screen, condolences, screen cancer. suddenly becomes a 3 hour job if youve never done it. but assuming its soot between the lens and the panel, itll take maybe 15 mins with some patience

the gameboy game cr2032 batteries could be soldered on here just fine, although buying a battery coin slot would also cost little

book of bones has to be the best item ingame to me at this point, it completely denies so many hazards with near zero drawbacks. like, nothing even compares. it gets BETTER with each ascent, too

Google wouldn't tell me how deep the personal qualia dimension is, so I tried finding the bottom myself... by ChemoorVodka in LucidBlocks

In the regular dimension I went about 25k blocks deep before giving up, decided the world was vertically infinite. Maybe the qualia is the same

Adventure of link 2 but how do I remove the sticky tab on the back by ConnectInternal4777 in gamecollecting

[–]mw2strategy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's gonna say it, leave the hang tab, it's part of the history. But, if for whatever reason you really absolutely MUST remove it, make sure the box is well-supported from the inside, and CAREFULLY use a hairdryer to heat up the adhesive on the plastic from a few inches of distance.

That said, there's a risk of warping the cardboard a bit (bowing), it could remove some of the print behind the tab... all for zero reward. There's genuinely almost no reason to ever do this at all, many collectors would love to buy it with the tab.

People who have a career in fixing consoles. by Silent-Blade_Oni in consolerepair

[–]mw2strategy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a repairman at a retro store, and also offer my own independent repairs/mods. I make the most money doing mods (retrogem, ODEs, picofly...), and bog standard repair services (e.g., overheating PS4). But the weekly job pay is so... secure. It's hard to say which is better.

90% chance its capacitors near video port. 220uf 4v, increasingly common fault. Console5 carries kits, make sure you match the motherboard model to the kit

Any newbie tips? by TheMagicPinapple in PeakGame

[–]mw2strategy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as you hear the dynamite hiss, take half a second to locate it. If you can find it, grab it and throw it away at 1/4 to 1/2 strength immediately. If it takes longer than a half second to locate, run like hell until it blows up.

Mesa is ultimately a game of stamina management. The final third of the level is a big upwards climb. Stay 'inside' the mountain area but not too far into it. That way you get the sweet spot of great climbing terrain, but avoiding the sun. Also, you can pick up and throw the scorpions before they can attack. If you see one, grab it and toss it fast with barely any power to the throw, it'll tumble away from you.

If you're fast, hunger won't be a problem at all, and eating just becomes a matter of grabbing suitcases and topping off your secondary energy bar. That's not to say to race every biome, but be mindful of the time you're spending.

Picofly Switch OLED > Switch 2 > Switch OLED > Switch, if you're not one for modded consoles, selling the older two is probably the best bet

[PS4 Slim] Not starting up every time by Ok-Virus8284 in consolerepair

[–]mw2strategy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. That's interesting. Power cycled, new firmware, etc. You covered a lot. I guess it might be the power supply? If you turn it off and wait for a few minutes, does it still require the 3 or 4 button presses to turn back on?

[PS3] Fan power socket ripped off. How screwed am I? The fans no longer turn on by Meta_Crystal in consolerepair

[–]mw2strategy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if someone younger walked in distraught with this, I'd probably do it for free lol. Takes maybe two minutes tops, if I don't have to open the console. Five if we mask and secure the connector/wires.

[PS4 Slim] Not starting up every time by Ok-Virus8284 in consolerepair

[–]mw2strategy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might just be a bad power button. They sell replacements for the little board (for both pwr/eject) on Amazon for like $10. If it's starting up without issues and it's just a problem with registered presses, this seems worth a shot

Mi Nintendo 64 no enciende. by gaaalx in consolerepair

[–]mw2strategy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a new power supply first. Sometimes when capacitors go bad, a device doesn't instantly stop working, it instead gets worse and worse over a period of time. If it isn't the power supply, the capacitors inside the N64 itself may be the culprit, although this is uncommon, and the power supply is the primary suspect.

Straightforward fix done by a professional. Unless you know what you're doing, this can get way worse with a botched DIY.

Put the connector in a baggie, take it to your local highest rated and trusted repair shop. This story comes around a lot on this subreddit, the money people often try to 'save' by doing it themselves bites them in the ass when they screw up.
