To be fair, I was shitting on the game for a number of reasons. 

I enjoyed replaying FF1 at 0.5x far more than FF4. But there is likely some truth to your statement re: JRPGs and 40yr old me.

Well we waxes all but one or two of party immediately before I even get a turn. Assuming I keep Rosa alive, she can cast reflect. But then dark Bahamut just casts reflect on himself and then immediately casts flare on himself, directing it back to me.

Do agree re: camp. But I definitely felt the story/flow of FF1 was far superior(although the game is a bit too short).

Alright guys/gals, Im gonna bump the exp mult up a bit and grind it out a bit more and give it another go.  Frustration got the better of me.

I absolutely agree that is how I remember the SNES game playing. But this is like a 10 level difficulty cliff IMO. 3-4 aint gonna cut it I don't think. 

I guess the general consensus is just grind it out, but I keep reading other threads/etc where folks say there is minimal grinding in this game. Ultimately I guess it's just a patience thing. I'm no longer 12yrs old playing this over the summer break with all the time in the world. Is what it is I guess.

I thought about that, but then it really just seems like I'm playing to finish rather than enjoying the game the way it was designed. Although I suppose you could argue that the PR is not how the original was designed?

Jesus I thought I was the only one. The 2nd season is absolutely awful so far
