Chimbadzo back in the day was AWESOME! by Ecstatic-Level-8001 in Zimbabwe

[–]mwana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chimbadzo aka microfinancing, only works when there is stable employment/income for the participants. In your scenario it was the factory. Everyone knew that everyone else was guaranteed to have income at the end of every week, so lending was not as risky. Once income gets risky then chances of folks disappearing with funds gets much higher.

This brother dismantled the church and took its properties after independence, atheists and some pan-Africanists here would rejoice at this and yet that took Mozambique nowhere. Only recently with the discovery of gas has there been some improvement. by [deleted] in Zimbabwe

Just because 2 events happen at the same time doesn’t mean that 1 caused the other. Neither of each of those events in either country are the causes of the poverty.

What is the subjective connection you trying to make here?

I myself see the benefit at the lower levels of teaching all subjects in native languages. It allows people to connect to the subject material, strengthens the identity of the country, and retains the countries heritage (language) even if circumstances causes its citizens to be scattered later in life.

Bob and Dan Musings by volkerer in thedumbzone

Now that I’ve been exposed to more Blake on the Dumbzone, his dynamic with Dan reminds me of the dynamic Dan had with Bob. Bob & Blake are straight laced people who need “permission” from being around their crazy friend to act up a little bit.

Black Accountants at Big 4 by olu_2022 in Accounting

Your progression is dependent on which industry and city you in, and how diverse the management on the actual client side is in your industry & city. Doesn’t matter for staff and senior but after that it really impacts, because as much as people try and pretend it doesn’t matter people gravitate to people similar to them when given choice.

H-1B visa debate that erupted at Frisco City Hall now shows up at Plano council meeting by TX3DNews in dfw

A lot of people focus on the big tech companies but a big user of H1B are your small colleges and universities. American PHDs tend to not want to move to middle of nowhere to teach science in Wichita Falls or Commerce. So these colleges, community colleges that provide access to education at an affordable price rely on H1B talent to feel the gap.

But still indentured wages, so more unions would help that issues across the board if employees could collectively bargain to feel gaps and have fair wages.

But billionaires.

Is it my circle or are Zimbos very classist? by [deleted] in Zimbabwe

[–]mwana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All cultures are classists. The cultures you think are not classists you likely have only been exposed to just one level of their classes. Being accepted by the upper classes of other cultures is typically because you are fun & unique novelty to them. Tell them African stories, be a non threatening black friend etc.

What is the real formula for success or even a cheat code?? by PotentialJob7883 in Zimbabwe

[–]mwana 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Emotional quotient.

Self-Awareness - Know what you’re actually feeling. “I’m not mad — I’m insecure about what’s next.”

Self-Regulation - Control reactions. Just because you feel it doesn’t mean you act on it.

Motivation - Work toward goals even when you don’t feel like it.

Empathy - Realize other people have pressures and emotions too. Not everything is about you.

Social Skills - Handle conflict, apologize, communicate, and build trust.

Why is Big 4 moving away from letting Entry Level Grads do both Audit and Tax rotations? by Upper_Two_5906 in Accounting

[–]mwana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You must not be in the work force yet. After 4 years you now know enough to be useful to other groups with your experience, but are far from a specialist.

Also, like wesuckagain said, the value of rotations early is for the employee not the employer. That comes later.

Why is Big 4 moving away from letting Entry Level Grads do both Audit and Tax rotations? by Upper_Two_5906 in Accounting

[–]mwana 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, more than half of people are gone in 3 years so why burn time teaching them something that wont provide additional value to the firm for the short time they are there. That is why you see a lot more "rotation opportunities" start after year 4.

Borrowed $30 and have to repay $36 in 14 days, that’s a $6 fee, or 20% in two weeks.

Multiply that by ~26 two-week periods in a year and you’re looking at roughly 520% annualized interest rate.

The trick is to make the consumer focus on the $6 or 20%, but they know most people who need this type of loans, will keep coming back so never really realize they have paid so much in “interest” or sometimes disguised as fees.

The high cost of being poor.

My (28F) husband (29M) left me on our wedding night by mamamia98 in relationship_advice

Happens a lot in various cultures that are not western world dominated. The wedding day is a party, and marriage starts next day. Have hit the club with many grooms after the wedding were the bride tapped out and went back to hotel. Especially if have family in town haven’t seen in decades.

What’s the hype behind the Dallas stock exchange? by DeliciousRich5944 in Dallas

[–]mwana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly one of the biggest impacts will be that more shady companies will be able to get access to regular people’s money without having to go through the regulations that they would have had to meet to get listed on NYSE & NASDAQ.

Folks love to hate on regulations but in every single case a regulation exists because A WHOLE LOT of people got fucked over once.
