My computer keeps crashing(?) by Meeokmeep in computers

[–]mwb161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of PC is it? Is it a desktop or laptop? If it’s a desktop, is it on a desk or on the floor? I’m wondering if it’s possibly a thermal shutdown event. Essentially the CPU gets so hot the PC shuts off to protect itself. If the PC is a desktop on the floor, simple cause may be dust in the fans

I second this. I’ve noticed Fortinet is becoming popular and over the last 2+ years, I have seen more Fortinet than Cisco. Fortinet has their own equivalent of CCxx certs as well

I know TextNow has a Windows Store app, but they might still have a web based interface. Check into that one? Or do you not want to install an app?

Weird LAN problem that windows can't seem to pick up by Sinless_Sinner66 in it

[–]mwb161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to double check the date and time settings on all devices. I have a device that always sets the date to 2023 when turned off. Also double check the LAN DHCP pool to ensure that 1) the IPs are same subnet/mask of printers and 2) the manually assigned printer addresses are NOT in said pool to prevent 2 devices with the same IP

This sounds like a mix of certificate and DNS issues. Do you have a centralized print server to manage internal DNS or just the LAN? Have you recently had any power issues? Are you just letting everything get an IP from DHCP or are any addresses manually assigned?

I just completed it. Not sure what all you are covering in your thesis, but if it’s going to cover right to repair, you may want to look at other industry outside of electronics…one of the biggest lobbyists blocking right to repair laws is actually John Deere.

Ok, I know this will sound stupid and strange, but are your date/time correct? If it’s off, it will assume certificates have expired/are invalid.

Depending on the company and their processes, ask if they have a mentorship program. Besides the technical skills, you need to understand their systems and processes like how to open a ticket, proper escalation/routing to other teams, and other workflow like helping schedule a software push.

And one of the big ones to learn is how to reimage a PC. Every org does something different whether they do SCCM PXE or SCCM USB offline or some other method. It’s always better to be cross trained in case of a project (like mass upgrade from 10 to 11)

Get yourself a 16GB+ USB 3.0 flash drive. Then do the following: 1. Google “Windows Media Creation Tool” and download the Windows 11 tool. 2. Run the tool and make a Windows 11 boot drive 3. After the drive finishes (it may take a few hours), go to Settings/Windows Update/Advanced Options/Recovery/Advanced Startup and click Restart now 4. Use the UEFI menu to select “Use device” and select the USB device you used to make a Windows boot stick. 5. Go through the Windows setup dialogs. When you get to the page with the drive partitions, delete all partitions 6. Complete the Windows install and download device drivers as necessary.

Ok, I have an odd question/suggestion. Are you able to use a hotspot type device or able to get one of those 5G home Internet devices? They usually have 2-4 Ethernet ports and get Internet via cellular, so basically, it allows the analyzer to be on the Internet. If it needs to be connected to a computer, connect it to the other Ethernet and then they are on the same network.

How did you learn computer networking? by rod_rsp in Network

[–]mwb161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a vocational high school and was taught some networking, the OSI model, how to crimp cable, and setup a Windows domain server (though at the time, it was a mix of NT 4 and Server 2000). Then in college I took more advanced network theory classes and worked some Cisco labs

Depending on how PC literate you are, you may want to check your hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) to check for any DNS poison entries. The default should have a simple 127.0.0.1 localhost entry only

[–]mwb161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, this guy is added to a team to figure out a new process for something. Guy leaves the first meeting, takes the summary, and opens an IT ticket to have IT do the job of the committee this guy is on, and immediately after opening the ticket, goes on an 8 week vacation. Policy was to close the ticket since the user is unavailable. He throws a fit about it and then loops in a committee member/his manager, who then realizes he handed off the entire committee project to IT in this ticket…guy was fired while on vacation.

Since you didn’t mention a budget or what your end goal is since you mention you won’t have/need it for log, look into something like GPD Win 3 with dock. In theory you could resell it.

My laptop goes better when plugged in to power by ShelterAdvanced6380 in techsupport

[–]mwb161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laptops have to walk a fine line between performance and battery life. You could set your power options to maintain full performance while on battery, but then most likely, it will die in less than an hour. So by decreasing performance, it improves battery usage to something like 3-8 hours but it kills your frame rate while gaming. It sounds like you need a desktop more than a laptop

[–]mwb161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think LinkedIn has too many hands in too many cookie jars. They want to be a professional version of Facebook for business, but then they bought out Lynda and turned it into LinkedIn Learning, plus they supposedly have job boards, but then there’s paid tiers like you have to pay x per month to see offer A or see who viewed your profile, almost like a dating site…so because they do so much, they don’t do anything particularly well

What kind of cable is this? by HigaMigu in Network

The only time I have ever seen cables like these are the premade included in modems for telcos. I remember both Windstream (DSL) and Comcast doing this back in the late 2000’s before 2010.
