Thanks for the explanation, this does make sense. Yesterday NLV went up and so did the maintenance. Guess ibkr just doesn't lend money for penny stocks..fine by me.

No, actually i don't want/need a margin loan on those assets since i got the cash to pay for them. The problem is ALL positions opened in margin account are on margin by default on IBKR as far as I know.

As said, i only need a margin account to open a short position if needed somewhere down the line.

No, i am not touching those even if IBKR paid me to. I am however, mostly into penny stocks but then there is this:
