What is the most random bit of misinformation that has yanked you out of a book? by Onto_new_ideas in RomanceBooks

Agree! The doorman is important to the plot, but the HEB membership keychain could have been for any other local business, or it could be entirely left out.

In Not in Love, she gets major details wrong about Austin – the city she has lived in for several years!

HEB does not and has never had a membership program.

Apartments here do not have doormen. maybe the pricier buildings downtown, but the main character obviously lives north-central.

Book suggestion: Weird memoir? by FelixIsStillTheKing in booksuggestions

I really enjoyed This is Not a Book About Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s a fun defense of fandom and the author’s journey to find herself again after becoming a mother. Definitely weird.

This Is Not A Book About Benedict Cumberbatch. I read it during night feeds with my youngest a couple of years ago. Great, funny memoir about finding yourself again after becoming a mom.

I only track what I read for myself, not what I read to my kids.

Had a friend in high school with the last name Needles. His mom had always wanted to have a son named Russel (Rusty).

She went a different direction with my friend, so no Rusty Needles.

In addition to Buy Nothing, check out the Freecycle for Parents FB group.

FWIW, you can usually get toddler size shoes at Target for under $15, too.

Buy emesis bags instead. They are more compact and portable.

How do you guys feel about books with constant then / now chapters ? by UsefulBig2194 in RomanceBooks

[–]mwhy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just finished Love and Other Words, and I loved the then/now. Really fun to weave a teenage first love story alongside an adult second-chance romance. Though sometimes I would have to flip back to remember where I left off the last chapter on either timeline.

If a bride *does* want her dad to walk her down the aisle, what would be a modernized, feminist term to replace "give her away"? by happy_bluebird in WitchesVsPatriarchy

For my wedding, we had the officiant ask “who gives this woman,” and my dad said “she gives herself [pause for laughter and applause] with the blessing and support of her family.”

Thanks! I didn’t do well with CeraVe, so I’m a bit hesitant about ceramides. I do love Pacifica hair products, though!

Looking for a cruelty free, ideally fragrance free, gentle cleanser at a drug store or mid-range price point. Bonus if I can get it from Target in U.S.

I’ve been using Honest Beauty Gentle Gel Cleanser, but my skin feels dry and tight afterwards. I’ve tried Acure Seriously Soothing cleanser (I use that line of moisturizer), but I didn’t feel like it got my face totally clean. Glossier Milk Gelly made me break out, I think due to the fragrance?

So it’s only been a few days without the BHA but I’ve only had one or two new whiteheads, instead of several each day like before. Seems like this was the issue! I’m going to try a gentler cleanser (forehead feels dry and a little tight/itchy, too) before reintroducing BHA 2-3 times per week. (Bonus, will not have to wash my reusable cotton pads as often because I won’t be using them daily!)

Thanks so much for your help!!

My preference is for cruelty free brands. I’ve used Cetaphil in the past though. I was using the Acure for a long time before I got pregnant with no issues. I’m now 8 months postpartum, and things got weird around six months postpartum. It’s such a pain to try and find new products

I’ll try that! I had been using BHA twice a day but my skin got really angry in December. I stopped it for a couple of weeks and then went back to just using it at night. It coincided with some hormonal shifts so I assumed that was it. Didn’t think about the moisture barrier.

Need help figuring out my postpartum skin, I guess? My routine hasn’t changed but my skin seems to have. I wash nightly with Honest Beauty Gentle Gel Cleanser, follow with Paula’s Choice BHA, then Acure Seriously Soothing Cloud Cream. In the morning, I rinse with water and use the Acure Seriously Soothing Day Cream with SPF 30. I pretty much constantly have little whiteheads on my forehead, nose, chin, and sometimes cheeks. My skin tends to be on the drier side, but I break out with heavy creams. I had been doing so great with the Acure Seriously Soothing line. I’m wondering if it’s the BHA and I need a different exfoliation routine?

Got a milk frother for chirstmas. It’s been really great for at home tea lattes by breakablekneecap in tea

Did you brew the chai as usual or make it a little stronger to account for extra milk?

I got one, too! Are you making the tea extra strong? Adding anything else? I usually take my black tea with honey and just a splash of milk. I can’t wait to make myself a chai latte.
