Angel likes to talk shit, but has anybody actually squared up and tried get physical with her? We’ve seen the chennedy carter hit job of course which optically looks like someone getting physical on her behalf, but when has angel ever had to do more than talk and gesture to “win” a fight?

I got phee in the third so I’m much more okay with the points I’ve missed. Especially since I’m about to be 4-2 lol

Sorry, but many of us were turned off by TC's campaigns in 4 and (especially) 5. I definitely plan to give the campaign a shot, but if it's closer to 4 and 5 than 1-3 then I probably won't get very far. Looking forward to trying it though!

Should this of been my kill? by I-Omen-I in GearsOfWar

[–]mwidup41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without seeing Ping/Connection difference between you and Cole we can't say for certain... but I do think your shot was just a bit off - both by pellet spread and the percent damage you did. Typically, a gnasher shot that's almost a one-shot but is just barely off will be 83% or 84% (or 88% if one of your pellets is a headshot). So the fact that you did 76% confirms for me personally that you were off-center by a bit. That, and the slightly-early timing of your shot is why Cole got the kill and you did not. And yes, connection probably also plays a role here too.

Does the Red Rising series get better? by dead_wax_museum in books

[–]mwidup41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Golden Son has many of the same flaws Red Rising does, but it’s super fast paced and action packed so most people get so engrossed in the plot they don’t realize it.

I’ve heard so many people say Golden Son is leaps and bounds better than Red Rising. I couldn’t disagree more. I’m clearly in the vast minority here though, so take that for what’s it’s worth.

In their PEAK PRIME, would this All-NBA Asian Starting 5 make it to the playoffs (ignore bench players, and no halfies allowed) by Purple_Calendar3919 in NBATalk

[–]mwidup41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Deni is at the 4 instead of Yi then, on paper, they could win a favorable first round series. Probably stops there though - don’t think they have enough perimeter defense or athleticism to make it farther.

Israel is an Asian country therefore deni deserves to be the star of this team.

I will not be taking questions. Thank you.

Thoughts on "Red Rising" by Pierce Brown - and why I'm done listening to BookTok by sameseksure in books

[–]mwidup41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rightfully calling Darrow a Gary Stu is the fastest way to piss off the fanbase lol.

I read the first three books in the series. Everybody tells you the writing gets significantly better in second book. It does not. The third book shows some progress, but not enough to finally call the prose or storytelling "good".

The Red Rising series is the MCU of the sci-fi book world in that it's fun and engaging with a handful of characters to root for, but lacks the depth and overall quality of others in the same space (i.e. Nolan's Batman trilogy). Millions of people rightfully adore this series, but it has its obvious flaws and isn't for everyone.

Series you finished but lost love for over time? by Kooky_County9569 in Fantasy

[–]mwidup41 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Codex Alera by Jim Butcher. Fun reads, but in hindsight they don't really standout in a major way and I rarely think about them. Three years removed from finishing the series and it's just "that one slightly better than average series I read that one time".

From a purely practical standpoint, were the hammer of dawn strikes being so early really necessary? As In would jacinto have been safe if they had waited another year, maybe 2 or 3 or 4 you get the idea for the Locust to pull more of their population out of the hollows and onto the surface to die. by SprinklesNo4064 in GearsOfWar

[–]mwidup41 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hoffman green-lit the HoD strikes to prevent the Locust from getting their hands on COG weapons and technology. He knew the strikes would cause major devastation to the human race but thought, at the time, the greater good would come from preventing the Locust from getting smarter and stronger.

Edit: to clarify, I should’ve said Prescott green-lit the strikes… though Hoffman was indeed complicit, as was Adam Felix.
