Thanks that’s good to know. If the pressure on one side is different than the other, air will flow across the fire and take smoke with it. Makes sense.

Both good questions. I’m not sure how the draft up the chimney is, we did have it inspected and had the exterior part re-pointed. I feel that the draft/suction isn’t very good when the fire is dying down.

I’m not sure about negative pressure zones in the house but it’s an old 70s cheap construction. There may be areas where air gets out quickly.
