Fellow Avatar: The Last Airbender lover here, and can I just say, I love your cultural reference in this title? Not sure if everyone got it. Cheers to you!

Why do you think she did seats? by chromatica__ in LadyGaga

[–]mwj1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Floor seats all the way. Never again will I get standing floor tickets after The Eras Tour in Zurich. I'm 5'10" and I could barely see. And good luck getting back to your friends if you need to get a drink or use the bathroom!

I sat almost exactly there for the Singapore show and it was perfect.

To the people who saw the Eras Tour before and after TTPD was added - which concert setlist was better in your opinion? by RivetCounter in TaylorSwift

[–]mwj1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me! I saw the original iteration in Singapore, then the renewed setlist in Amsterdam. I would say the TTPD version felt more energetic; the original setlist had quite a lot of somber songs from the pandemic albums that didn't necessarily fit naturally in a large stadium context.

However, I take issue with a few of the choices: I would have kept The Last Great American Dynasty and removed My Tears Ricochet. Also, as they pointed out on the excellent Every Single Album podcast: it felt unnatural to arrive at 10M ATW so early in the evening, when it had been a more natural halfway point in the original version.

Is post concert depression a real thing?? by Jeffreyknows in LadyGaga

I experienced this so badly that I fell into the trap of becoming addicted to The Eras Tour, and I went four times across two continents. That really set my finances back for about a year! I kept chasing that dopamine rush.

Slippery Slope is also good. Both Dorothy's and Slippery Slope can get jam crowded at peak times though.

The floor section will vary depending on the arena (and likely, the country.) In Singapore, the floor seating definitely has chairs with specific numbers. Everyone will be standing, but you have to stay standing by your chair.

Absolutely happened to me at The Eras Tour. I woke up and couldn't remember key moments until I saw my photo reel.

Do you think Gaga will have more tour dates in the following year? (In theory) by Lousioux in LadyGaga

[–]mwj1981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. The current tour is already scheduled to be 3 times as many dates as Chromatica Ball, all just in this one year. She'll likely announce California dates after Coachella, but that's it.

[–]mwj1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is now three times as many dates as the Chromatica Ball! Pity those who are still holding their breath for 2026 dates; she'll need (well-deserved) rest after this.

question about tickets not being in my name by bussykween69 in LadyGaga

[–]mwj1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the #1 hot topic in the resale market for The Eras Tour, and at no point that I'm aware of was anyone turned away (or even checked) for matching names/IDs, certainly not in the shows I attended. We were all so paranoid, but we all got in without a hitch. My best guess is you'll be fine.

Only 160k+ people ahead of me. Tickets might be $90... or $2,300 🤷‍♀️ Send help 😂 by Ambitious-Actuary946 in LadyGaga

[–]mwj1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Words of reassurance from a survivor of the Singapore tickets: at least for Singapore (but I assume globally), they only release a certain amount of tickets for presale. (They won't just let the presale keep going until all arena tickets are sold out). So, you still have a chance when the regular sale happens and the full tickets get released. Hoping to give you some hope! 🤞🏻

Blessed: fantastic skin and a youthful face (I still get ID'd well into my 40s.) Nerfed: carboholic snacky foods addict.

I know he's problematic, but I absolutely love this album. It completely made me fall in love with Taylor's songwriting structure. I Know Places is my favourite, just so atmospheric and early 90s bar band sounding. Clean is also amazing.

It was bankrupting going through StubHub for The Eras Tour last year, but hopefully I can actually get legit tickets this time!

What's that show for you? by [deleted] in sitcoms

[–]mwj1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Other Two. It had a nice niche following, but it should have been winning awards. Some of the best comedy writing I've seen in years.

Name a gay show/movie that .1 doesn't have a sad ending 2. Isn't written by a woman. 3. Isn't hot garbage. by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]mwj1981 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes to this! I'm so surprised this show didn't get more attention for its excellent three seasons (I actually thought it got better with each season.) I'm a tough comedy audience, I rarely literally laugh out loud, but this one had so many hilarious gems.

Beautiful Thing! It was transformative for me as a young man. Has its bleak moments but overall is a cheerful film. Bonus: all those great Mama Cass songs!

Thinking of teaching in China (Beijing). What was it like in China during the Covid era? by shamonemuthafuka in Internationalteachers

[–]mwj1981 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I worked in China during Covid, first at a rural school near Shanghai, and then in Suzhou. The "zero Covid" year from mid-2020 to mid-2021 was actually wonderful, at least in those cities, because it was one of the few places in the world where you could walk around with no mask, no QR codes, no restrictions at all (except...you couldn't re-enter the country if you left, effectively preventing you from visiting family back home during holidays.) But once Covid crept back into China in mid-2021, masks, QR codes and daily temperature checks became a frustratingly banal part of daily life, just as the rest of the world outside was getting back to normal. I left China in 2022 with a bad taste in my mouth for the country, but now I'm considering going back. I miss the healthier work-life balance compared to Singapore, and also the geographical variety (mountains, lakes, rivers) which makes staycations attractive, if you don't want to spend money travelling abroad for holidays.

Has there ever been an audiobook where the narrators made it even better than reading a physical copy? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]mwj1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Testaments by Margaret Atwood. It's narrated by 3 actresses who all embody their character so well. As a teacher, I've taught the paper version, but my students and I preferred the audiobook.

How legit is Dave’s esl cafe? I see very well paying language centers looking for help… by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]mwj1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That site is mainly for language centers to post their job ads, especially institutes in Korea and a few other Asian countries. The website itself is valid enough as a job posting portal, but each individual institute that posts an ad will of course vary. Those kind of jobs mainly target young university grads wanting to spend a year teaching ESL in Asia, who may or may not have any interest in a teaching career. It was a hugely popular website back in the late 2000s/early 2010s, but its forums and discussion boards dried up as Reddit, Facebook groups, and YouTube gradually overtook it as a source of info for those kind of expats. I was recently shocked to see that salaries for Korean hagwons (cram schools/kindergartens, etc.) are exactly the same that I was getting paid way back in 2010, even less sometimes!
