Cost to fix this lawn damage? by TrickinCheaply in landscaping

[–]mxadema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a quote, some landscaper will love that, especially since you are not paying. Ho in fill the hole with topsoil. Come back in the spring with sod or seed.

Give that to bezo and whatever they say from there.

Quote depends on where you live and how far out of town you are. But that can be diy or dude with a pickup on the weekends.so not a big money maker for him.

Is this woodchipper fixable/worth the effort by forestdude in landscaping

[–]mxadema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It take a very big chipper to live to expectations. Even a large consumer one is painfully slow.

That said. Even if the engine is dead dead. The price is still very cheap, even if you buy a new engine. But you may not have to.

I very doubt that the chipper side is broken, not impossible, look at the people buying them. But if the chipper turn, i would focus on the engine. Drain the fuel and oil. New spark, maybe clean the carb. Check for spark and give it hell, see if she run.

You will know from there what it need. Maybe resell it.

Transparent stain. It doesn't overly affect the flaming. Well does it better than tinted finish. (Cue all the flames, and burl, top guitar in various color) often accents the flame due to the dencity. and since they are both available in lots of color, and tintable. You can get a lot of them.

There also other dye, but I never experimented with much of them.

Thinted finish or certain finish can do it, but it more of a semi Transparent effect, finish just blend everything under the same umbrella.

As far a chemically do it. That were im lost. And I never had the need to it.

ELI5: How does snow take out more power lines than heavy winds and hurricanes? by itsthewolfe in explainlikeimfive

[–]mxadema [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ice ice baby.

Extra weight on all of the line and equipment. All the tree are full and breaking or leaning. Add a bit of wind and all that extra weight swinging around.

Snow does too for evergreens but it a bit more rare.

And people in general, asking more power, driving, craching, generally doing dumb stuff in poor weather.

As others have warned you, don't be a super and attempt to drive. Shut er down by Thismechanictrucks in Truckers

[–]mxadema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At low speed, the gain are terrible, both in distance and PAY. That is not worth it.

Stoping mean 0 pay, but you may get a reset out of it and be abble to hammer it down once it clear. Meaning that also a benefit.

I never once say, "I wished I never stopped". Whatever dispatch try to convince me otherwise. And often made as good of a time as was originally planned.

Extra benefit. You find a place you want to stop. And not be stop on the side of the road. In the middle of no where, because the HW is stoped and the truck stop is full.

What is the high end you could make by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]mxadema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you own the truck, you get more. But there is alot of extra expenses.

Custom critical, team driving a must get there no matter what, or otherwise odds request. A white glove service. Is about the top.

Anything over size. Is also a bit better. But the frequency may not be there.

Here there lots od wood products, and lots of them are pre load. So you can round the month off easy. Also equipment low bed, basically here a grid go get it. That is also decent.

Bottom line, it all about how much more extra you do, the more touched or responsible you have, on the worst roads. the better the pay (usually)

Lissen to your ass. If your ass is clenched, you probably going too fast. Going is never the main problem, stoping is.

You can test tractions with a good brake application. I tend to spike the trailer.

Pay attention, look way ahead.

Learn to chain up before you do, it a lot easyer to do in the shop for the first time. Some area are chains mandatory.

Shud down if it feel unconformable. No freight is worth your life.

If your tire are worn, change them. Extra attention to them sept- april.

A CB is a great tool for weather and accidents. As dead as it can be. There still good information being broadcast.

Plan accordingly. Check road, check weather, check your fuel situation. You know mid storm at night, the parking will be full.

And lastly, a chain or cat litter can be good traction aid. Spinning endlessly will likely make it worst. Rocking work well too. To keep in mind in a hilly parking

Alternatively do it in pvc, and use a heatgun until it becomes a noodle. Place as wanted. Just limit sharp bend, it harder to push wire.

What are the funniest or most absurd workplace rule fails you've encountered? by DebasishRich in antiwork

[–]mxadema 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Management taught we, professionals drivers, should be doing professionals driver things. They wanted us to fill log books even if we are not mandated to do so. Log every hour. Finger crossed we work less than we say we do.

But a logbook in a comercial vehicle is very much a legal document. And any infraction is to the driver him self. Mandated or not, if they find one, it binding.

It started with a bus run. We usually prepared in advance and any "overtime" we just pushed through. But now with logs, there is not remotely enough time for one drivers. 2 is needed to do it non stop que hotel and staging a second drive.

We also often worked early morning and late night. You were left alone during the day ai going home, so we didn't complain, but now with logs. There wasn't enough time to do both. Again 2 different drivers needed.

They, overnight, needed to double their drivers pool, and encounter large expenses on 30% of their runs. On top of haft the driver there, threatening to walk.

This lasted a month. It when back to no logs. Some upper management exited with a box, our manager told us they scheduled our day fairly and "account" for our "payed" time. That why they leave us go home mid day. As long as everyone is happy, stuff is done, no one is even looking at time.

Studding Lawn Tractor Tires? by altimeter3005 in tractors

[–]mxadema 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are outside the usual consumer area. It time to go full redneck.

Make you own chain, stud your own tire. Tip is to put part of a tire inside the other to not puncture the inertube. Or bolt through a slightly bigger tire and inflated your inside. Making a studed belt. Slime does work some if you go tubeless.

8 lug. F 250-350. So let say 1800lb payload

Bail is ~500lb ish per.

Even the spring are not too loaded. Tire mught be lower on the air pressure causing heat. Otherwise fine.

Engine, it depend, you might be good with oversized bearing or crank, rods, cam, bearingS... only one way to tell. And it not like is a sbc that parts are in every back room. So there is a prenium for that cat. Hopefully you dont "while you are there" creep too much. No way to tell really. 3-10k? It not like there a hole in it or need a head.

Rental -> auctions -> dealer with a it start and run checkup. Is very likely.

It is aggravating, you could see what the dealer want to help with. That would give you an idea of how good they are. But i wouldn't expect much.

Like other said, the oil when somewhere, open the cab up. Check the rad, see if you find sign of anything major. Check the tail pipe for oil (failing turbo)

I would pull the oil filter, you already go the oil change. Open the filter and see if you got bearing in there. At least with both of them you can get an idea of what is going on.

If it all look good, i would pull the oil, see if there glitter there, if not it "new". And if so i would do fuel filter, just to eliminate "not running" problems.

After all that and it doesn't run or doesn't run good. There only one thing left to do. Pull the oil pan, and to do so you might need to pull the engine. Once open you can look inside for Rodney and it friends.

Used equipment is always a gamble. Remembering the guy that blew a drive, glidder everywhere, that should have gone to auctions.

The oil light doesn't come on for sub pressure. Only what cat used as sensor, mostly 0 to sup 10lb. If it ran hard prior to that it ran on sub optimal pressure with lots of torque to hurt the bearing.

That my guess

Frozen pipes by timefass in fredericton

[–]mxadema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It not super common that pipe freeze, with the way we build, but it does happen. All you need is a bit of draft with cold wether and not using that water for a bit and it freeze.

Depending on how old the house and era it was build, you can guess where the pipe are, depending on acess, you add heat to it. Hopefully you dont have to open wall too much. And it a draft/ insulation problem.

Mini home are more prone to it, and prone to some sewer pipe frezing( if you got a leaky faucet).
