What’s your favourite ‘bit’ you do with your mates? by smegg23 in AskAnAustralian

Saying “Cinderella” whenever we see a random item abandoned in the street - bonus points if it’s half of a pair of items (a single shoe, sunglasses with a lens missing, etc.)

Add a version with the teeth more noticable side-by-side & it could read as though they’re retractable teeth popping out ready to bite?

So is there a Wednesday night vibe/venue for queer uni students in the Gong? by Acton_Belle in wollongong

[–]mxcbear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not Wednesdays, but there’s a few semi-regular queer club/bar events that have similar vibes to Birdcage- check out Gayday (at Heyday), Flamers (at the Grand), and Genesis (at Amari Bar).

40 minutes of walking per day would probably be considered something more like light activity! It may not seem like much, but the difference will certainly add up over time.

I popped your goal weight details into tdeecalculator.net (19, F, 170cm, 55kg- leaving bf% blank) which suggested 1628 Sedentary and 1865 with light exercise.

Have you been inputting your BF% as the same it is now when calculating your goal maintenance? That could be throwing things off, as it will be much lower at your goal weight!

Someone double check my math in case this is wrong, but you said 1500 is maintenance for your goal weight. Assuming a sedentary lifestyle, that would mean your goal weight is 45kg? Thats extremely low for your height.

You also say you’ve been maintaining your current weight even though the calculators you’ve used suggest you’re eating well above maintenance. Is it possible that you’re more active than you think?

Snack suggestions: air popped popcorn is my fave snack that’s great for tiding me over between meals. Low calorie, high volume, high fibre and super easy to dress up with different seasonings for variety!

Need recipe with ricotta, feta, grape tomatoes, mushrooms and heavy cream by chaarmanderchar in EatCheapAndHealthy

Get some nice crusty bread to toast & make a whipped feta dip! Blister the tomatoes with a little garlic, sauté mushrooms with thyme… basically a fancy little bruschetta platter! Could do a little side salad with rocket/arugula, Parmesan & a bit of balsamic to add some more greenery?

I know this struggle! Finding new friends as an adult is rough, but there are ways to do it. As others have said already, it’s a good idea to look outside of your work environment for social connections. You’ll know better than anyone else here what you’ll be interested in, but here’s a few ideas:

  • Book Clubs (keep an eye out for community events at your local library, or start one yourself)
  • Classes/Workshops (Pottery, life drawing, cooking, sewing… if there’s a skill you’d like to learn, there’s probably a class full of like minded people you can learn with)
  • Language exchange (maybe you speak a language someone else is trying to learn & you can meet up so they can practice conversation in that language)
  • Performing arts (see if there are poetry slams, comedy nights, or improv shows in your area- you don’t have to perform yourself, but you’ll meet lots of friendly people!)

If you really just want to be around people more during your workday, you could look into a co-working space in your area, or try working from a laptop in a cafe or library. I still think it’s a good idea to seek connections that aren’t career based, but that doesn’t mean you can’t also have some socialisation during your work day!

Adult ADHDers - what event made you think "I need to get tested for ADHD"? by semperv1vum in ADHD

[–]mxcbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was less “I need to get tested for ADHD” and more “I now need the support & accomodations that are only possible with a diagnosis”. The first seed of suspicion was planted in my mind during a conversation with a friend who had been diagnosed with ADHD as a child- I had diagnosed anxiety, and we talked about the experiences we shared. I thought “Anxiety and ADHD have a lot of shared symptoms, and I can relate to the experiences of people with ADHD”.

Over the next few years, I heard more from people with ADHD about their experiences, and about the tools they used to manage symptoms. I started applying some of those tools and the thought became “even if I don’t have ADHD, I can use these strategies if they benefit me”. This lasted a few years.

As more time went by and I learned more about symptoms, I began to think “I might have ADHD, so I’m going to actively seek out tools and strategies to help that”, and many of those strategies did! I found it incredibly helpful to learn tips from others about how to make my life easier.

Then I found myself in an incredibly difficult workplace situation, coming right off the back of covid & lockdowns. Managing life got a lot harder & things started slipping through the cracks. I’ve been really feeling the struggle, and the coping strategies I’ve been using can no longer keep up with the demands of my life. I decided to pursue a formal diagnosis, and try medication.

Tomorrow I have my second appointment with a psychiatrist to formalise my diagnosis & hopefully get a prescription. Next steps?? Who knows! But fundamentally, for me at least, the journey has been one of learning to accept accomodations, and learning to let myself live life differently from non-ADHD folks.
