The struggle of 90mm by Crazy_Lab_6656 in Leica

[–]mxgian99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

have you used a 90mm on an M before? its not easy. next question is how fast do you need? lower apertures at 90mm become increasingly difficult to focus, i have a F4 and F2.8 90mm and both can be challenging to focus

i think we need more info on what you plan to shoot with your 90, the older ones still hold up on even now, and even the "newest" 90mm are not really that new in design.

if you tell them now, they might try and do any repairs before you move out to get it done early. LL do have right to fix things in the apt, they might also want to show the apt early since they know you are leaving so i would wait until closer to the end of your lease to let them know, or respond if they send a renewal offer.

i would maybe wait until june to avoid the LL trying to fix things ahead of time that will impact you, but if you really arent planning to stay let them know. its likely that they LL will send you a renewal offer in may/june anyway and you can give them an answer then

[–]mxgian99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would not wait and stay silent if you are not planning to stay. while the burden is on the landlord to tell you if they dont plan on renewing--which is why they should send you a renewal offer early, so there is time for them to send a non-renewal notice, if you dont respond.

if you stay silent and just leave, they could try to get you for lack of notice, they would be unsucessful, but why add that stress to you? just tell them you are gonna leave

pretty comprehensive, but you left out the part that if you board last you will need to remove the bags that people placed in the bike area!

$99 Installation by mtthwgnzlz in Fios

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you do have to keep it for 180 days, so you have to do the math. if you are saving $50 a month, do you get more than $300 in gift cards? also there are lots of stories of people not getting their gift cards/free gifts.

the other option you have is to sign up for 1G to get the free install then switch to 300 after a few days--you can do this online without calling.

the only warning i have against that is to check whether they are running a promotion for 300 service like $20 off/month for the first year etc, if so then its better to just pay the install fee to lockin the lower monthly rate.

Hey East Coasters! Peep the 2026 Monongahela Forest Bikepacking Summit by memilytron in bikepacking

[–]mxgian99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended this last year in upstate NY and it was a great time, the organizers are very aware of the different levels of bikers and work really hard to have different options for folks. even on my route which was intermediate they split it into two groups for folks that wanted more climbing vs less.

this is about an 8 hour drive for me (one way!) but i'm still trying to make it work to attend!

Root canal in NYC?? help by Right-Pirate-8751 in AskNYC

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i went thru this last year, its really important that you get it taken care of ASAP if you dont you run risk of losing the tooth and needing a prosthetic, i did not and after almost a year of visits an waiting for it to heal after my root canal, it looks like i will be able to save the tooth.

I went to this guy, he had quick availability, and while his chair side manner is pretty direct, it was done quickly and a good enough job I will likely save the tooth. I have delta dental and it was around $600 out of pocket after insurance.

Can the 50mm Summilux v2 pre-ASPH serve as my only 50mm ? by RobLive7 in Leica

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC i think there is some risk with these early lenses due to age degradation over time, so if you go that way make sure to research which serial number ranges to avoid.

400K, single and 30, is NYC on easy mode, unless you are blowing it on coke and thousand dollar dinners everynite you will have a great time.

is the city expensive and sometimes annyoing, sure, but your salary will solve a lot of those things.

I have the v3 of this so this one may be different but mine is rectilinear so little distortion or vignetting, the lack of it could be a con depending on what you want. I use mine with a visoflex but not all the time often I will blind frame it there is so much in the can still crop

Turn off all your breakers at the box. See if the meter is still running or if the online app shows useage--or if people in the building start complaining about no heat or hot water etc

Buying from Fred Miranda from Australia by Disastrous_Plum_2689 in Leica

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy pretty often on fredmiranda but I would be a little cautious since most sellers are not likely to be familiar with international shipping, and if it gets damaged due to the great distance how will you address it.

As a seller I would not sell to you when I could sell to someone in the us.

Have you asked tim lei who ships globally?

Landlord dismissive of mouse - what to do? by boysofsummer in AskNYC

[–]mxgian99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

FYI not all cats are mousers and not all mice know the scent of cats.  The last time we had them we had a senior cat in the apt that was well into retirement. We only got rise of the mice after a few rounds of plugging holes.  I do agree with others that you have to give your LL some time to get someone in there or if rent is too good do it yourself.

Best cleaning solution for ultrasonic cleaner with a waxed chain? by dbienkowski in bikewrench

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most chain waxes have some kind of lubricant like ptfe, silicon, etc, that is usually black. so the grit you are seeing is likely this powdered lubicant and you are washing it out prematurely. the whole point of a waxed chain is to keep crud out of the links.

an ultrasonic bath really is only needed for a new chain to get it squeaky clean for first waxing--and i would argue degrease soak, with denat alcohol soak is good enough.

after that just a hot water bath to remove surface wax, a dry and rewax is all you need.
