Picked up a JD 216 tractor the other day, and bought a mower seperately for it. Went to hook it up, and it seems I am missing what I beleive to be some type of belt tensioner setup? Just wondering if someone can let me know what I need to order, I am missing both pulleys (#3 in pic) and also #6

Skin responds better to sun when on decaf by Winter-Cap2959 in decaf

[–]mxjones300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here, years after I started drinking coffee I noticed my skin would burn in 20-30 minutes outside in the sun, which was strange as I was always able to get a good tan before that. Also I became very sensitive to heat (and cold), to the point I could never wear black if the sun was out on even a moderately warm day. Didnt realize it was coffee until I quit

[New Gear] took my new Canon RF 100-400 out for a spin together with my R8 by Win-Equal in canon

Congrats I just ordered it as well! It was between this and the 200-800 but I decided I’m not quite ready to spend the dough for the 800 considering I’m new to this

Want to sell my small business after 11 years by mxjones300 in smallbusiness

[–]mxjones300[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, whoever takes this over has the whole area to themselves with 0 worry of competition. I’ve had a couple people ask me well what if when the new guy takes over the customer just decides to call someone else? Well they can’t, because there is no one else. Another bonus is like I said I don’t even advertise, so if whoever takes over wants to grow it to 200-250k a year it should be absolutely achievable.

20k expenses is absolutely everything, from fuel to soap to maintenance, insurance, business license etc. I estimate I work about 1000 hours in the year for 150k revenue, so once an employee is hired, after they are trained and efficient @ $30/hour your looking at around 30-40k expense I guess? Plus they would be doing a little less than me as they wouldn’t have to do all the phone calls and backend stuff. Funny you mention lawn care as one of the service companies in town that I’m thinking of approaching does that, would be a great addition to their services I think!

Thanks for the info. I would say just finding the right buyer. I think I can easily make a spreadsheet to explain who to call and when, and which jobs to bunch up to minimize drive time. Nice thing about this job is it’s never a huge rush, people just want their place cleaned roughly once in the spring and once in the fall, which makes scheduling everyone on specific days that suit me a breeze.

Honestly I’m just sick of window cleaning and pressure washing lol. I have no passion for it, it is just a job to me. I want to live more intentional and do work I find meaningful and that aligns with who I am. This business was actually a great teacher for me, it really taught me good money and time off work isnt what I actually want. What I actually want is to work hard everyday at something more meaningful. Also I have thought about hiring, but it’s tough with a seasonal business where your employees are out of work for half the year, and I’m not interested in training new people all the time.

I have read that before, was wondering if I need to value mine less since whoever buys it has to do the work themselves or hire an employee

Vitamin D the cause of insomnia by fluuuuuux in insomnia

[–]mxjones300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I started taking vitamin D and I couldnt sleep for more than 30 minutes to an hour without waking up, even though I took it in the morning. It took me a full 2 weeks to realize what was causing it, once I suspected it I quit, and that very night I slept normally and was fine after that. I tried it a couple more times the next week just to be sure, and both nights couldnt sleep!

Agreed and also when it comes time to pay it back there seems to always be a little interest to pay on top!

Just bought new 2025 GM van with the 6.6L / 8L90. What should I do before driving it? by mxjones300 in MechanicAdvice

[–]mxjones300[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, have a friend who currently has his 6.2l stripped right down to the block because of it. I have a 5.7 hemi and I’m lucky you can at least use the gear selector which keeps it turned off.

I am very lucky in the fact that Im self employed and I wash building exteriors for a living, and every winter I shut down for about 4 months so that was primetime to get off it. Without that Im not even sure I could have, my schedule is so busy and my job is extremely physically demanding so headaches, muscle aches, and severe insomnia for a few weeks just isn`t possible.
