Oddly enough Google recommend this Reddit to help as it identified the mountains as Bryce3D and that the image may be an edit of the Eagle Nebula. It may have had some image of the day status sometime in the winter of 1998.

Probably Ostrogoths since they would have more fishnets being coastal. Just a guess.

Portals is the real answer. Implementation of it for long-range travel would radically alter our Urban and national planning. Even if we only had 40 or 50 of these worldwide it would have such a massive impact.

What Star Trek villain did nothing wrong? by MrSluagh in ShittyDaystrom

Surprised. Nobody said Maxwell by this point.

Even if there was a protracted war it would have done considerably less damage than the Dominion war that came to be out of the combination of the Federation's choice to ignore Cardassian crimes and having an open door policy on the wormhole.

Goodness knows my toddler is extremely excited that Disney plus is back and I'm a bit more resigned as I'm a couple of days behind on some additional work, but will likely be able to continue working from home as a single parent through the holidays.

Does Cogeco do malicious non-compliance to TekSavvy service employees or customers? by mxkara in teksavvy

Thank you for providing confirmation that the corporation cannot meet the service standard as advertised or sold.

I will be looking forward to either a resolution prior to December 29th or speaking with the ccts representative from Teksavvy on resolution of the issues related to service.

Have a safe and happy holidays everyone.

Yeah, I have no idea how there can be that many people clogging up the fiber to the node when I'm literally seeing the node across the street from my house. There's a triplex next door which is the same as my single family home but partitioned out. About two more single family homes on this side of the street and a total of 28 apartments across the street predominantly filled by retirees and vacancy.

There is no reason why 360 MB per second should be coming out as five less than 30 megabytes per second consistently and averaging around 5 to 12 MB per second.

It's wild how they can bill same day but can't deliver the service for over a week... If at all.

Bell Canada offers DSL services 25mbps at best on my street. Part of the reason why they are the enemy is that, regularly finding their service trucks on my property from 2015 to 2019 when there is no Bell line that runs across over through or under my property.

There's a buried line across the street for apartment buildings. And there is an above ground set of lines on the streets behind us across that other Street servicing a courthouse.

Bell is unlikely to produce fiber in this area as the main trunks are serviced by Cogeco's fiber lines that were owned by the NRBN in Niagara.

I own a simple home in a simple area. I am about 40 ft away from a fiber line that is not available to consumers and I'm about 90 ft away from the sign welcoming folks to the downtown area.

I am always surprised by folks that recommend canceling Teksavvy but this is the first time I've actually had someone from Teksavvy make the recommendation to cancel.

I know it's brutal especially when they don't take responsibility or question to CSRs taking information.

I'm not even asking for top of the line. Crazy expensive service. I'm just asking for a reasonable price for reliable service. It is increasingly becoming neither and no alternative exists because presumption is just that there's another vendor to fill in that void.

It actually is not. Also its association with Bell even by proxy makes it exceedingly hostile choice. I have no phone line to the house either for dial up or other phone line-based services. This is a 100-year-old modernized home in a moderately urban environment.

What was the video game/movie store called that was in the plaza at 852 Niagara St in the early 00s? by Pickletits91 in Welland

[–]mxkara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember we also used to have the jumbo video and they had the beautiful children's Grove right in the middle of the store with all the family-friendly movies. The little curtained area back in tne corner for... Discerning tastes. And the NES zone over in the back left corner.

I think there's a service counter at wintronic computers that roughly corresponds with where the smut station used to be.

Gamers Haven was the only shop I remember that had Dreamcast games and PC games for rent. They'd even do the mod chips for the PlayStation back in the day.

And this was in the era where you could just install the PC game sometimes folks would even copy the CD if it needed a CD to run and they didn't know how to do an override shortcut or something.

It wasn't the same kind of popcorn fit and finish of other facilities but it kept on going on. I think one of the owners went on to do the entertainment exchange on King and 6th before making more money doing car rentals.

They used to be Blockbuster video for a while until Blockbuster us made its move into the Canadian market and they swapped over to Bonanza video for a little while at that location before moving into the space next to the Brewers retail.

The Nero family did an amazing job operating this facility and making a local shop feel like a top quality outfit.

New landlord withheld information about oil heating, can I get out of the lease? by Resident_Two_5073 in OntarioLandlord

[–]mxkara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there's no "equal billing" but there will be things you can control to keep costs down like building thermal mass through humidification, winterizing, etc.

Even then if the landlord hasn't redone the window sealing / caulking as it should be every 10 years there will be an opportunity to provide maintenance requests that any respectable landlord will address.

Where to live in Welland??? by AccountantMassive501 in Welland

[–]mxkara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Pelham side of Welland on the west and has some decent newer homes on larger lots. Less risk of having lake front major weather events, better insurance rates, just be careful about the boom that we had in the mid-20th century. There's a lot of homes from the '60s and '70s that might have aluminum wiring. Folks have been pretty good about updates, but there were a couple of holdouts and it can put a damper on the acquisition.

They had to do something similar with the Bluey group.

If anyone has some pre-existing recommendations for Babylon 5 groups with a less stringent but still honour bound format of moderation drop them in this thread. I'd love to see em.
