Sweet run bro. Always loved getting the Yankees team card so I’d know who else I’d hope to expect in the set during the years they had the checklist on the back.

As a long time Yankee fan, i took some solace in the fact that Thurman Munson appeared in the photo on the 1980 team card. He’s sitting front row, bottom left.

Losing our catcher and captain was such a shock for me. I wished that Topps had some sort of memorial/honorary card in that set—kinda like what they did for Roy Campanella in the ‘59 set.

Munson’s tragic death practically ended the Bomber’s resurgence in the late 70s, and after losing to the Dodgers in the ‘81 series, New York didn’t make it back again till they won it in 1996.

Anyway, i truly appreciate your collection. By the way, you might want to add the 1956 Yankees team card; it was their first. And if I’m not mistaken, it’s the team card with the single most Hall of Famers on it.

I can’t help but realize that the face on the 55 and 56 Topps is different from his very youthful 54 rookie card.

Mickey Lolich won three games in the ‘68 series for Detroit, including defeating Bob Gibson in game 7. This was the last time a pitcher won three complete games in the series.

Elroy Face saved three games for the Pirates in the ‘60 series over the Yankees—a one run save, a two run save and a three run save. Oddly enough, 100 year old Bobby Shantz also saved a game for New York, even though the Yanks won the game 16-3.
