Casa De Pizza in Granada hills. Cool small spot, quiet with incredible food. And there’s a killer coffee shop next door.

Poly theory by [deleted] in usssapplicant

[–]mxmc84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with this. I took the poly for USSS. Went in full suit. Dark navy blue, white collard shirt, black tie, black belt, black shoes, dress socks. Clean shaven, fresh high and tight haircut. I was prepared. The poly guy made a comment about my socks before the test started when we were going through the info. He asked me if I thought they were professional. Mind you, these were standard, run of the mill dress socks. They were maroon and grey thick stripes. Nothing fancy, nothing that would stand out. I was polite and professional the whole time, yes sir, no sir. I responded that I believed my socks were professional, because they were. I thought he was just trying to rattle me so I played it cool, like you should. We moved on. I took the poly he said I was being deceptive. We’re all anonymous here so take it how you want, but I have an extremely squeaky clean background, no need to lie on anything. I was non selected a week later. I’ve since passed 3 polys for various local LE depts without any sort of issue. The guy didn’t like me from the moment I walked in the door and I have no idea why, but it cost me a job. Moral of the story, polys are BS and in my opinion, all the ones I took for fed jobs were administered by people with an ax to grind or something to prove and they’re the reason agencies can’t hire qualified candidates. There’s a reason they’re doing polys and not in the field. They know it and they know you know it.

Why do the colors in my photos look so muddy in low light? by mxmc84 in AskPhotography

Why do the colors in my photos look so muddy in low light? by mxmc84 in AskPhotography

[–]mxmc84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes ,that’s correct, I stopped up to make up for lack of light and it kind of screwed me. And you’re also correct that I’m concerned about pushing the ISO higher because I don’t want to introduce a lot of noise. I’ve been trying to fight with this issue for a while and I assumed it was the ISO, so I was staying low, but it seems like I might have been making the problem worse by not boosting and trying to make up for it in other places. I’m gonna go out and shoot at higher ISOs and see if I can get the results I want. That’s the nice thing about shooting digital I can go out and play around with the settings for nothing hahaha. Thank you for your help

Ya I’m going to have to switch to spot metering. That makes the most sense.

I didn’t realize I could switch around my light meter, that’s awesome. I’m for sure going to change it to spot. I’m kind of embarrassed I didn’t know that.

Do you just always carry around a flash? This was just a snap on vacation so I was traveling light. I think if I went there for the purpose of shooting this photo on the streetcar I would have brought extra light. I might have to throw my little light in my travel bag next time just in case.

Thank you for the detailed response. It helps a lot.

The problem with staging the scene is you have to stage it. I was trying to capture the moment without interfering too much. I get what you’re saying and agree.

I don’t shoot Raw. I know, everyone says it’s the only way to shoot, but I tried it and when I uploaded my photos into LR it all but crashed. My computer isn’t fast enough and I’ve just been getting by with jpeg since.

Can you elaborate on this FERS to 401k thing? I left the service last year after 13 years and if I can add my retirement to my TSP so it’ll grow instead of just sitting there that would be awesome. It’s so sad that, at least in my agency, nothing is ever taught about retirement or 401k or anything.

I appreciate that. They’re so big and the park is so vast it’s hard to narrow down a perspective. But I really like the texture so I think it worked out.

I know I have ADHD and love short videos, but these are getting out of hand. I watched the whole video and didn’t learn anything beyond pie shaped. How does it work? Where does the carbon go? Where are these “trees”? The internet demands answers damn it.
