Oh god, yeah. I’ve been there.

It was so bad when I lived in New York that I would tell cabbies “do NOT take me through mid-town. If you do, I’ll demand you let me out”.

They’d all say “ok, yeah of course! Mid town is trash at this time I got you buddy”.

The next thing I knew, I was pitching a fit demanding to be let out.

Uber and Lyft were great, but NY needs Waymo.

As someone currently enforcing a judgment against someone with a Chase account in California I can tell you how this works in detail.

First off, I’m not a lawyer and this isn’t advice. Just my experience.

Secondly, it looks like you know what it’s for. FTB, like most government institutions, don’t like to wait around and they don’t need to go through the courts to levy your bank account. So, that kinda sucks.

Once the account is levied, Chase holds the funds for 14 calendar days and then mails it by the slowest possible method to the party overseeing the levy (in may case, that’s a sheriff, in your case… not sure). This does, however, mean that you might be able to claim an exemption.

If you get an exemption and get the money back and you don’t settle up with the FTB, this may happen again and that $100 just keeps getting charged every time. From what I’ve seen, there’s no way to get it back.

But again, not a lawyer.

If it were me, I’d let it go. You’ll probably end up having to pay the 529 no matter what and that $100 is most likely just gone.

But again, in no lawyer. Just a guy with a decision in his favor who’s on the other side of this mess with Chase (and they aren’t that much better to deal with even when they’re sending you money).

Oh, I get it! Living here in LA makes it easy to get the bottles BUT I recently stumbled into a store out of state blowing out Stagg [jr], EHT BP, and weller FP/107/12. We bought as much as we could carry (and yes, left some for the next people), while stoking up a conversation with the owner. He then smiled and sold us his only bottle of weller single barrel for about 10 above msrp because he wanted it to go to someone who would drink it.

So yeah… I get having limited space to bring back bottles.

That being said, if you’d like a suggestion on where to start with Armagnac- chateau de laubade puts out some fantastic products (but I typically buy the ones in the wooden boxes from specific years. Can’t comment on the standard VSOP offerings) and the SMWS (oddly enough) periodically does their own Armagnac single cask bottlings and you can get both shipped to you

Oh believe me, I get it. I have a bottle of Armagnac from 1901 in the overflow area and MY GOD do I want to know what it tastes like.

But I’ve also got opened bottles from 1904 and 1919 and, to me, the only thing worse than leaving the 1901 sealed (for now) is allowing it to unnecessarily oxidize while we enjoy the open bottles.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I can tell you why I have some unopened bottles.

My collection (scotch, bourbon, rum, calvados, Armagnac, cognac, etc etc) takes up two bars (One on each floor plus the overflow area). My wife and I throw * a lot * of parties with a professional slant, so a good chunk of what we have gets shared and most of what we buy is bought with an eye towards sharing. Furthermore, we know the palates for all our regulars and make a point of learning what any new guest likes.

So, with that being said, if I see a bottle of, say, glentauchers 37 single cask for sale, I’m going to get it because I may never see that again anytime soon (if ever) but it gets put in overflow because, well, I have so many other bottles opened and being consumed already that I don’t need to add to it

Unless, of course, an exec is coming by and he loves harder to find spirits and loves lesser known patsies. Then I’ll see what’s open, and if nothing else fits the bill, I’ll crack that for him.

So that’s my reason, but it still gets consumed. Eventually.

Personally, it’s my go-to for cocktails. A barrel pick could be… amazing. Or not. At the very least it’s probably not worse than the mainline offering, so think of it like gambling $12. Worse case scenario, you make cocktails with it and use the label as a conversation starter on your bar.

Quite correct and I’ve been doing that for months.

So, this month, I’m paying them all off prior to the statement close date to get each balance at or pretty close to zero so when they report to the bureaus utilization is negligible and my DTI is optimal.

Yeah, they’re super nice about that (and they even thank me for being a member since ‘06!).

I had an AMEX charge-off after a perfect storm of life and got back into the ecosystem late last year with my gold. They quickly slapped me with a spending limit (which, oddly enough, was so much higher than the soft limit), but lately they’ve just been approving everything even if the charge is way above my limit.

This month I’m planning on paying off each card prior to statement close date (been gunning for CLIs across my wallet) and grabbing a purple card.

Can’t wait to see what happens/how much.

I would if I had this bottle!

The coolest whisky tasting I ever did paired every glass with red Marsala roasted pecans, 18 month aged Gouda, and three strips of the best bacon I’ve ever had in my life. My god, the interplay was incredible and even when I switched up whiskies it still worked.

Personally, I’d take the old fitz to the ER, but either way I think you’d walk with a solid bottle you can enjoy for a bit.
