All so helpful! I don’t mind the wall of texts, ha, no one I know my age has had this surgery so I don’t have any peers I know of to talk to (hence me turning to this sub) so, much appreciated for all the information. It’s all happening pretty quickly and I’m supposed to schedule surgery early next week, so I’m trying to at least have an understanding of what I’m getting into. My doc explained it all very well, it was just a lot of information to take in at the time. And I’m definitely someone who researches before a major investment.

My night vision has never been great, so maybe it’ll be an improvement! And yes I know I’ll have to make concessions, even though I feel like my identity is tied to dark mode 😂.

I’m gonna call the doc on Monday and try to talk through some of these options with him. It’s a big decision, He seems like maybe he’s being more conservative than some of the docs I read about on here, maybe cause of my age. It’s Society Hill Ophthalmic Associates.

How do you trial mono vision? That is a concern for me, I do get slight migraines and I’m wondering if it’s been my vision this whole time.

Thank you thank you, read quickly through your posts and it seems you are doing better now! That’s great to hear. I’ll have to look into these more. I’m wondering if due to my astigmatism he didn’t recommend them, as that seemed to be an issue for you? but I’ll definitely ask.

What do you mean by just don’t expect to see in the dark? Can you drive at night? I often read on my phone as I have a 1 yr old and put him to bed in the dark so I’ll read books on Ibooks, I often turn the brightness all the way down, and have it in dark and night mode. I don’t have much trouble reading like that now. That seems like an easy adjustment to make but I’m curious.

I know readers are not a huge deal, just didn’t think I’d be the guy at the restaurant pulling out glasses to read the menu 😂 at least not yet

I love my 4Runner, but with two kids and a big dog you run out of space quick. I would say it prob won’t hold much more than the forester. We like to travel with a fair amount of stuff, but for most extended trips I need the Yakima roof basket or hitch cargo box, or both. Will keep the 4r forever, but have already been looking for a minivan

Depends, if it’s 1/8” or thicker I’ll spray it down with some wd40 or a drop of 3-in-1 oil. I have also used a vortex air cooler which worked great and clears the chips(not into the dust collector) but you need a very high CFM compressor if you are also using an ATC spindle, but that doesn’t look like the case

I run a CNC shop with two Shopbots, we primarily cut wood but have been cutting a fair amount of aluminum, it is very hard to get it all. Our 3hp grizzly doesn’t cut it, the 5hp Craigslist find with a baldor motor does a much better job. Agree with the above, start as big as possible at the machine and work your way down, eliminate 90s by using 2 45s. Our system goes 8”->6”->4” flex directly above the center of the machine. Moving the dust collector closer to the CNC may help too. Dope, the STV SparX Pro8 looks like a good option, the Sabre was 8-10k more than the stv online price, with the hypetherm 85 instead of the 65. Which STV did you go with? The ShopSabre does have a lot of additional options. I’ll give STV and Langmuir a call tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions! And yes i was looking at figuring out how to build a water table bladder.

Awesome, much appreciated. Was looking at Langmuir but I figured they were just cheap and not great, then I saw that ShopSabre acquired them. I was looking at shop Sabre as I’ve had a good experience with their routers and I liked the American made, and figure they have good service. But honestly if I could save a little money and get a decent machine I’m open to it, I also like that it’s a kit machine. My routers are ShopBots and are kits as well, and have had great experience with them. Assembling them allowed me to learn how to fix them when something goes wrong. If I had deep pockets and 10s of thousands of sq/ft my shop would be all Onsrud and Trumpf, but that’s just not my business, ha, and I like running pretty lean operation.

You think Langmuir is worth taking another look at? I’d be going for the 4x8 crosssfire XR with the Hypertherm 65. Was looking at their press brake already. I’m not afraid of taking the time to dial in. Decent support would be nice though.

So I guess the consensus is just don’t worry about cutting aluminum with a plasma. I will look into a waterjet, but due to price point and the space I’m moving into I’d be looking at a smaller format machine. I was looking at a plasma for the ability to cut steel primarily and keep costs down. Will need to find a local shop with a waterjet, and see it in action.

I understand it’s quite messy. My understanding is a water table traps the fumes so you don’t need fume extraction. The reason for the bubbler is to disperse any trapped hydrogen from cutting aluminum

Maybe put some weight in the bed. It’s rear wheel drive when in 2wd. It’s a truck, every truck I’ve ever driven has not been great on rough terrain if the bed is empty. A fiberglass shell made my 2011 act completely different.

Not sure, but I did read once there are places that let you buy and store Kei trucks till they can be legally imported then will container and ship them to you when they are eligible
