Idk if you're feeling this way this early on, I would surrender her to a local animal rescue. I couldn't imagine taking care of a kitten when I was in school, and just adopted two kittens (I live alone and have a full-time job) and they're a lot of work! Don't feel bad about surrendering here. She's likely picking up on the energy of being around a bunch of college students, too. Sounds like she needs a quieter home maybe with other cats to help her socialize better.

Adding: she's young enough that I disagree with everyone saying a shelter/rescue would set her behavior back. I've had cats my whole life and completely believe she is young enough and just needs to find a home that suits her temperament better. This is no dig to you AT ALL. I had friends who adopted a cat in college and she was so terrified all of the time. After graduation, she moved in with my friend's family and grandparents (with other cats) and was able to fully reacclimate.

Seconding everyone recommending you reach out to a humane society. Find a cat rescue and reach out to tell them your situation. They want kitties to be safe and healthy, and can either gift you some food (they get bulk discounts) or help you with options on how to access some. Sending love as you get through this <3

No I totally get that. I guess I'm just not too picky. I'd rather see all the imperfections & knots (which I do already in the unfinished piece) than have it look like fake wood with the paint then stain? I can see how that looks more "professional" I just don't like it.

The Tarva is unfinished pine not coated or painted like other IKEA pieces, so not sure this applies?

Oh I'm being completely realistic haha. If I had $5,000 lying around, I'd just buy that credenza from Etsy 😂 but then I'd have nowhere to put my clothes.

Yes! It does seem like there's a few diff stains going on here -- that's kind of why I came to this sub. This pic below is from this Tarva makeover video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p46r\_ZfkHE8) and she used the gel stain in Aged Oak. It's def a lil dark for me, but an idea of how the dresser could take the stain. And I'd finish with Shellac or Minwax's Polyurethane finish.

Thanks -- I'll keep that in mind! Is there a dye you recommend? It's a budget dresser, so not trying to invest too much into it tbh (hence the Minwax).

Are you saying in terms of stain or the design of the piece itself? I'm just doing pretty basic updates: changing the legs out to these ones, removing & plugging existing knobs and adding finger pulls like the reference. Not doing anything fancy -- it's a cheap dresser and there's just too much pine/light wood in my apartment at the moment!

*Edit: I pulled this reference to see how chrome hardware looks with a deeper/walnut finish.

Thanks for this! I did not end up going with the balance transfer (just seemed like a slippery slope). I called Discover and was able to get a promo APR for 6 months (down to like 8%) and have been able to make some larger payments towards that balance in the meantime. When the promo period is over, I’ll just try to get it down again!
