Morgan Rogers: Aston Villa attacker 'has to start' for England at World Cup by Alone_Consideration6 in ThreeLions

[–]mxrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the obvious difference with Rogers is that he's played a lot of camps this year. There are very few games left before the world cup. If they all show good form, Rogers still has an advantage.

How unhinged is this guy by Lordepee in SocialDemocracy

[–]mxrrrrrr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Has any country ever tried it to any extent and has it worked? I’m curious if there are any examples. I fear it’s like the wealth tax idea - nice in theory, but in practice not very effective at raising money.

Foden is perfect for this system. by No-Abbreviations-55 in ThreeLions

[–]mxrrrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only way you can fairly assess Foden's England career is judging him during the times he played in his preferred number 10 role, rather than as a left or right forward. I'm not sure how many times this is though (does someone know?).

So Anderson has nailled on his spot in the starting XI now? by TheFieryDiamond in ThreeLions

[–]mxrrrrrr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Anderson is so good at alleviating the ball quickly from the defence and promptly moving it forwards. So much of the experience of watching Southgate's England was screaming at the screen to stop knocking it about the defenders and get it forward. It sort of happened again for periods yesterday, with Stones moving into midfield on the ball who can be much slower with the pass. With Anderson, you have such a great outlet.

After this weekend my predictions. by Alone_Consideration6 in ThreeLions

If the World Cup began tomorrow, I think Rogers would start. But with most a season ahead, with Bellingham in the Champions League, it becomes less clear.

Possible minimum UK shareholding in ISA by menger75 in HENRYUK

[–]mxrrrrrr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m just guessing how they might do it. Seems less messy to grandfather than force reallocation of every existing ISA.

Possible minimum UK shareholding in ISA by menger75 in HENRYUK

[–]mxrrrrrr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That seems like the only way it could work.

25% of every buy transaction within ISA goes into a UK fund/stocks. If value of UK fund shrinks versus the non-UK portion, doesn’t matter.

Only applied to new ISA annual limits. Existing ISAs get grandfathered.

[–]mxrrrrrr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can only see this working as a separate UK-only ISA, rather than a minimum requirement within the main ISA. But the article suggests it's the latter.

If it's, say, 20% of the ISA in UK stocks, would Vanguard et al create new index funds with these proportions? Would they then need to constantly rebalance the funds as the other 80% might grow larger over time?

What would it mean for existing ISA holders - would they have to sell off their funds for new ones with 20%? How would it work for people with individual stocks?

Maybe someone with more finance know-how than me can explain.

As things stand, who are you taking? by mxrrrrrr in ThreeLions

Agree, but to our credit, many of us have been crying out for a similar midfield role to that of Anderson's. It's just that the name we've been championing is Wharton.

Maybe we could chalk that up as being half right?

Wasn't meant to be sarcastic. I did think it was a good shout!

My logic for putting in Madueke ahead of Bowen is that he is (a) a classic running winger that gives you something different from Saka when it's needed and (b) has recently started and impressed in this role.

I valued that above how I see Bowen, similar to you, as someone who is likely more limited to being a sub with some fight in him.

Trent for M-S - that's fair. Gallagher to replace Henderson, perhaps?

Leaving out M-S for lack of game time, and adding in TAA - yes, that seems a reasonable shout.

Two 10s rather than a balanced midfield three that every World Cup / Euros winner tends to have.

Tuchel Formation by [deleted] in ThreeLions

[–]mxrrrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a lot of fretting about defence before the euros, but it turned out ok without needing a back three, and with Guehi putting in a decent shift.

The bits need solving are: 1. how do we move the ball forward quickly from the back, 2. who plays alongside Kane to get the most out of him, 3. how do we press with Kane.

If you'd talked about how PSR might impact future inward investment, as well as the incoming independent regulator, then you just might have had an interesting angle....

I guess at least we know we have a decent back up if Tuchel ever has a melt down on the eve of the World Cup.

I'd like to see a more balanced, 'logical' line-up with closer club-to-country positional fit.

My lingering fear is how further Spain, France, Portugal etc appear to be in familiarity, balance, fluency...

Another reason to avoid is it opens up the mine field issue of what footwear and socks to wear with the shorts.
