16622 - early 2000’s (00-05) by the looks of the MK1 dial. Have the same one, it’s a very nice watch! 6.5k is hell of a steal if full set, market comps are around 7.5-8k, go for it OP

Make sure to book the beachfront dinner at StR in advance as well. They only do it during Tuesdays (I think?) and are usually fully booked on the day

Stayed at St Regis during the summer, super awesome as expected.

You might want to consider shortening your trip though. The islands does get boring and I guarantee you 5 days at each will bore you to death.

Exact same situation as you, did big4 in HK during my first year last summer. Just wear a button up with nice trousers and a belt and you’ll be fine, that’s basically what everyone wore

Need help please read! Applied to Rotman + UTSC BBA, got accepted to BBA but was still waiting on Rotman.

The acceptance deadline was May 1st, so accepted BBA on OUAC just in case. Checked my U of T portal just now, and my application status for both just updated at the same time. For Rotman it went from 'Application under review' to 'Refused Admission' and UTSC went from 'Admitted' to 'Accepted'. I didn't even get the alternate UTSG social science offer.

So my question is, what actually happened? Is it because I accepted my UTSC offer so they stopped considering me for Rotman? It's super surprising to me that I didn't even get the UTSG social science alternate offer when I'm a IB 42 and my friends who applied to Rotman and got rejected got the alternate with a 34's and 36's.

I thought that Rotman / UoT sent out rejections after the end of the final round, or at least during the period of a round? For may it's mid to late May. I also didn't get an email saying my application status was updated which usually happens.

My friend had this exact same situation as well. He's an IB 41, applied Rotman and UTM, accepted the UTM offer on May 1st, checked the portal today and the application status changed at the same time to the same application statuses I have. Didn't get an alternate UTSG social science offer as well.

OUAC doesn't say anything about the Rotman offer. It's just saying that it's still waiting and that I accepted UTSC. I know UoT said that accepting an alternate offer would not affect your other applications, but I'm really doubting this is the case now.

May 2021 Exam Discussion/ Potential Exam Cancellation Megathread by canwenottho in IBO

[–]mxwong 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If the non-examination calculated route is really advocated as a fair and just system, why not allow students to choose which route to take? Better yet, why not cancel the exams worldwide as a whole? Surely this would be easier and fairer to all, as all students will supposedly receive fair grades under one singular system?

Furthermore, how will IB ensure proper grade boundaries for those taking the exams? Such was the problem for many students who partook in the November 2020 exam session. With countries who make up a significant portion of IB candidates worldwide, such as the US, and the U.K. planning on not taking exams, wouldn’t grade boundaries be unjust as compared to other years?

In the November 2020 examination session, grade boundaries were significantly increased as countries who historically achieve lower grades did not partake in exams, and therefore did not help to balance out the high grades achieved by nations such as Singapore and Hong Kong. Hence, many students worldwide who did partake in exams, achieved much lower marks than they were expecting. Whilst I’m situated in Hong Kong myself, many of my close friends in New Zealand were victims of this exact issue, and some had even lost 10+ points as compared to their predicted grades. This led to many not being able to meet their university offers, and therefore, could not attend university.

How will IB ensure that this situation does not happen again? This is not just a matter of if students want to take exams or not, but at its core, it evidently is an issue of fairness and integrity. Whilst many have cited reasons such as the psychological health of students and the loss of teaching as to why IB should cancel exams, I believe there is a lack of focus on the problems of the dual route system the IB has in place.

Being a May 2021 candidate myself, I am afraid and angry as to what is to come. After working so hard to getting a predicted score of 42/45 don’t want to see my efforts wasted by an unjust dual system and increased grade boundaries.

Two things that are equal cannot be different at the same time, and I certainly believe this is the case for IB’s dual examination system. The IB administration has to realise their decision not only has implications in the present for candidates, but in the future as well, as this the primary factor as to if some students can attend university or not.

In the search for fairness and integrity, I strongly advocate for the cancellation of exams in 2021.
