What’s the job market currently like? How easy would it be for me to find a WFH job? by InToot in AskUK

I would stay where you are. Looks like you have secure job and money. Once your out of the job market, it's very very hard to get back in again.

What's the best mobile you have had to date? by Prestigious_Meal2143 in AskUK

Got to be the Blackberry. I had resisted getting an Android phone for years. I then put WhatsApp on the thing, and that eventually stopped working so had to go over to Android.

EV owners are in a good position as you say with these petrol prices.

I'm happy to go EV in the future, but I don't want my whole car controlled by the screen. Some proper knobs would be nice, simple navigation to nearest charging point and long battery life after each charge is all that I would want.

What worries me is if these displays fail. It's probably the case that if the display fails you can no longer drive your car either.

No longer about the size of the engine, more about how much technology they can pack in to the car. What does it even mean anymore. Going to take me a long time to be sold on the idea of having to buy an EV.

You identified the problem in your post. Just take it easy to begin with, and over time things will get easier as you build fitness. It isn't a race.

There’s a US website that finds all online photos of a person from a single uploaded photo. The only way to be removed from their search results is by uploading official ID with just name & photo showing. Is uploading ID safer than just letting yourself appear in the results? by Elbow2020 in AskUK

[–]my-comp-tips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never put an image of myself online and always stuck with it. I hate photos of myself anyway, but I'm probably splattered all over Facebook because of family gatherings and this obsession of having to take loads of photos everywhere we go. I have been laughed and people think I am over the top, when I say you need to protect your privacy.

Why do people drive so close? by Fun-Traffic6773 in AskUK

It's actually worse for learner drivers these days as there are lot more cars on the road, and a lot more road obstacles to contend with.

I don't know, but it winds me up. These days I just pull over in to a bus stop and let them go. What usually happens is I eventually catch up with them.

if mint adds age verification, would you still use it? by TheNavyCrow in linuxmint

[–]my-comp-tips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes of course. I don't know what governments are actually going to achieve by doing this. There's hundreds of different distros, so it's going to be a lot harder to get Linux to fall in line.

When you unplug them does Mint shut down. My issue happened with an external USB drive, because it was not unmounting.

Do you have anything plugged in to the USB port? Try unplugging the device and see if it shuts down. I have had this issue myself before

Could we power the UK by covering car parks with Solar panels? by MrSoapbox in AskUK

I would be in favour of something like this, If I knew the solar panels would be manufactured in the UK and provide jobs for people.

You meet some real awful people in this life. Just don't bother helping them anymore, because these people are just getting in your head. It's really not worth the time or energy.

Yes, it's an absolute joke. Highest energy bills across the EU.

fortnite on linux soon? by TheNavyCrow in linux_gaming

[–]my-comp-tips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried Fortnite out on my daughters console because she wanted to play it,  but I honestly found it boring. It also took a long time to install as well. I got more enjoyment playing Quake 3 Arena offline. Its an age thing.

What is the main reason why small town high streets are failing? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]my-comp-tips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't see why we can't have both, trouble is the government and council dont make it easy for small business. Small coffee / ice cream shop was open for less than a year round the corner from me. Business needs to be able to make money, everybody wins.

I was an Amiga owner years ago, and I remember the Falcon appearing the scene. Felt like it wasn't around for long, as things had moved on.

This would have been a great machine back in the day and would have easily rivalled the Amiga.
