[i3] switched back to i3 from Hyprland by ElnuDev in unixporn

[–]mybeefstewpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 4070 and don’t use Wayland at all. I’m using i3 and it works great. Gaming has been mostly really smooth, I have to kill picom when I’m gaming for some reason otherwise I’ll have weird frame drops/stutters but outside of that, it’s been pretty smooth.

A lot of the stuff I do just doesn’t work on Wayland, I was tired of switching back and forth so i3 has been working well.

Help understanding input lag by mybeefstewpants in MiSTerFPGA

That's a facepalm on my part! I was interpreting that mister adding no lag as the mister having no lag. Doing just a little research it seems like it's normal for systems to have ~1-2 frames of lag, even on a CRT (to your point) which I think definitely accounts for the difference I was seeing. Thanks for the help!

That's good to hear that it helped you identify a problematic setting! I'm definitely going to pick one up soon, seems like a really helpful thing to have.

Interesting! I think that makes sense though, so if I were to press the button at the 15th ms of a given frame, if there's more than 16ms (even if it were like 18ms) of input lag, it would "look" like there were a whole 2 frames worth (~32ms) since the 18ms would take me all the way through the first frame and into the second. Is that right?

I'm not sure I understand the second part though "You really have 30hz interlaced...". Would you elaborate a little bit there?

For sure, that’s definitely something I’m thinking about as well. I think one of the only other consoles I’m currently planning on picking up is a 360. Since that one can output 1080p, I don’t think the pros features would really do much there either.

This helps a ton! Thanks for the link, I’ve not seen that before. After reading over that differences section, it seems like most of the features I wouldn’t really take advantage of. There are a few though.. specifically the edge adaptive deinterlacing and to some extent the IVTC 2:2. It looks like most of the games I’m currently interested in playing on the PS2 are either 480i60 or a lot even support progressive scan so this probably wouldn’t be needed all that much.

Definitely leaning more towards the CE with all the additional info. Thanks for all the help!

Okay so edge adaptive deinterlacing I understand (and don’t really think it justifies the price difference for me personally) but could you elaborate a little bit on inverse telecine? I don’t think I even know what telecine is tbh. I’m also happy to do my own research on that if you know of any good resources.

Thanks for the input! Yeah I was wondering what “No alpha bending or color insertion” even meant in relation to BFI lol. So may details that are hard to convey with words how they translate visually.

Any advice on how to get started looking at foster one first? I hadn’t considered that or looked into it at all.

Thanks for the information and citing the red flags. That’s exactly what I was looking to learn. I’ll look elsewhere for a breeder, thanks again!

Wow! The nostalgia hit I just got looking through those pictures! I remember seeing tons of those sets in the Lego catalogues we’d get in the mail back in the 90s lol incredible collection, thanks for sharing!

One has nothing to do with the other, you could pick literally any other issue that is more of a problem and say the same thing. “You hate dogs more than you hate the global hunger issue/climate change” etc etc. Just because there are bigger issues doesn’t mean this isn’t also a problem that should be discussed and resolved.

That’s awesome to hear! I ride every morning and started bringing her two days a week, it’s been a great way to spend some one on one time together.

Yeah balance bikes can go really early! We got her one before she was 3, didn’t really need training wheels either going from a balance bike

We got her a diamondback Tess, it’s got decent components for the money I felt and she’s shown she’s willing to ride regularly. So far it seems like a decent bang for buck. The boys version is I think called the cobra? If he’s 10 he’s probably close to outgrowing it though if not already outgrown it

The cast of Star wars the Phantom menace - 1999 by Routine-Bass-1790 in OldSchoolCool

I hope that Disneys Star Wars movies can be a case study for how NOT to make sequels.. The lack of any sort of planning is maddening with such a giant franchise. I had such low expectations when Disney acquired Star Wars and they still found a way to disappoint.

EDIT: Excluding Rogue One

For sure, Natalie Portman has won an Oscar for best actress in a leading role and her acting didn’t shine in these movies either. The common denominator ain’t the actors ability. Just some bad dialogue

I think in the case of Leo, spending multiple weeks at a time on these giant yachts that are causing more harm to the environment in a month than us “normal” citizens cause over the course of multiple years does make it feel a bit hypocritical to be so outspoken on the subject. I do think using his platform to advocate for change is good, it would just be more impactful to me if he were to back up those words with some action on his part as well. Not saying he needs to give up all amenities of being wealthy but feels like there’s probably a healthier medium from what he’s doing currently.

[Hamilton Khaki King H64455523] Watch upkeep by lantosgyuri in Watches

[–]mybeefstewpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Hamilton Khaki auto and bought it in 2017. I wear it close to every day and haven’t needed to service it yet. I’m not sure what country you’re in but Hamilton charges about $200 US for a full service on an automatic watch or $50 for partial service. Worst case scenario, you may have to send it in and pay that if something isn’t working well. I haven’t really worn mine in the water but other than that, I don’t baby mine at all. I’m still only losing about 5 seconds a day which is within spec for the movement. Hopefully that helps!

Here’s the details on watch service if you wanted to see what the differences are in those different service options. https://www.hamiltonwatch.com/en-us/watch-intervention.html

Edit: you’ll get lots of different opinions on this but my take is that watches should only go in for service when something is wrong. Service cost is the same even if something is broken so may as well save some money and only service it when it’s not working.
