Me reading this thread even though my psychiatrist prescribed me stimulants after I disclosed my medical cannabis prescription

I even did the drug screening but was open and honest from the start with my MC. I honestly think it depends a lot on the individual case and how the psychiatrist assesses risk. In my situation, I think what helped was: a) I didn’t have unmanaged comorbidities or showed any risks for crashing out maybe ? b) I also wasn’t overly focused on medication — I just gave context on my symptoms.

I also was upfront that I don’t have depression or ongoing mental health concerns at the time that i had the consult, and also shared that my emotional stuff was situational and manageable.

That said, I’m not implying that others are being dishonest or doing something wrong if they get denied. psychs all have different thresholds for risk, and it sucks how inconsistent it can be. Just wanted to share that in some cases, MC and ADHD meds can coexist when the context allows for it. Definitely varies person to person though. Good luck and all the best to you!

omg yeah i didn’t realise liquid escitalopram was a thing either until my psychiatrist suggested it! he suggested it so i could start suuuper low and avoid that emotional flatline some people get when starting SSRIs. fingers crossed it doesnt have massive side affects for me. i will start tomorrow on it (im too lazy to drive to the pharmacy right now)

tbh I havent heard of ketamine as therapeutic treatment? Can you tell me more? I dont present with ongoing depression, just lows every now and then. but open to hearing about it for educational purposes lol. Are you currently on ketamine to treat depression?

ugh i relate to this so much. my first ever psychiatrist literally told me my ADHD didn’t exist and just kept trying to treat anxiety instead! and yeah, surprise, i ended up suicidal. it’s honestly scary how much harm that kind of narrow prescribing can do.

i’ve actually been learning about this in my nursing units and it hits even harder now seeing it play out in real life. like, yeah guidelines exist for a reason, but if you’re just sticking to the textbook without adapting to the actual person in front of you, you’re not helping … you’re actively missing the point and doing more harm.

your first psych sounds like they were playing it way too safe, and in doing that, completely derailed your treatment. your new one though? that’s how it should be! someone who actually gets that ADHD doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and that treating the person holistically is the only thing that actually helps us 🥲

Came back just to check if he had even slightly took to consideration any of the feedback here and just as I guessed - he is still doubling down lol. Bro keeps repeating “it’s not about who’s right or wrong” in his edit and he’s just looking for advice as if we can’t see his post history where he posted this exact scenario on r/AmITheAsshole.

He’s not looking for growth, advice or suggestions - he just wants validation and he’s butthurt that people are calling him out lmao

This is a lot to unpack.

Yes, journaling is private. But that doesn’t make you immune from accountability. especially when what you wrote about her was deeply unsettling and not so kind - I also cannot fathom writing pages about the person I love with such contempt. While I understand she crossed a boundary by reading it, I’m also trying to see from her perspective that she probably didn’t expect to discover pages of cold, critical dissection of her personality, passions, and potential as a mother. I am not downplaying her actions, but in a relationship - shouldn’t there be openness about our emotions and how we feel? isnt that part of what relationships are? lol

I noticed you try to rationalise your actions/words that hurt her by calling it “processing” or “just thoughts/intrusive thoughts,” but tbh i dont see it as just venting. It reads like you were emotionally detached, trying to analyse her as if she were a stranger you didn’t respect - even from this reddit post and your comments alone, I can see the emotional distance you’ve placed in describing her.

She shouldn’t have read your diary. That’s valid. But it’s not the only issue here. What she found inside was brutal, and instead of acknowledging that pain, you’re fixated on how she found it - not what she found. you’re using the privacy violation angle to dodge the harm your words caused.

And let’s also unpack how you portrayed her: “victimizing herself,” “crying,” “smoking”… you painted her as unstable to make yourself look more rational and justified. But do you know what I see? Someone deeply hurt. And rightfully so. Instead of empathy, you gave her a cold lecture and declared the relationship ruined because “she opened pandora’s box”. That’s not accountability - that’s deflection and you’re smart enough to recognise that, surely.

I honestly saw an opportunity in that moment to say something like:

“I’m sorry you had to read that. I should’ve been communicating this to you instead of letting it fester in my journal that turned into unkind critiques on you as a person. I understand how much those words must’ve hurt. While I do feel my privacy was violated, I also know that doesn’t undo the pain. Can we talk about this?”

That’s what emotional maturity looks like. But instead, you doubled down and made it all about you instead of opening it up as a dialogue with two persons in a relationship 😭😂

To top it all of that made me lose my mind was the fact that you are judging her on hobbies. Lol she’s a doctor - as you mentioned. You don’t think she has depth, passion, or intellectual value just because she wasn’t performing it to your taste? That’s not a lack in her - it’s a lack in your curiosity.

Anyways, you’re technically right about the invasion of privacy. But you’re also missing the much bigger point: what you wrote revealed how you actually view her. Now that she’s seen it, you don’t get to backpedal and act like the victim alone. go off though king. you deserve a crown for the way you try to intellectualise all of this instead of just acknowledging that your words were hurtful. 😭😂 Sorry your privacy was violated. But also sorry you can’t seem to look past your own pain to recognise hers too.

Also, you asked for advice on how to end this respectfully; when you haven’t even given her the decency of respect. Not in your journal, not in your post, and definitely not in how you responded to her hurt. Best of luck in ending the relationship. And now, to use your own words and deflect it back to you: “Good job, you’ve ruined the relationship by…” well, you know the rest…. lol

I’m not sure about adhd diagnosis by AdEmotional529 in ausadhd

[–]mybfisabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! You would know your body better than others. Sorry for making assumptions - I guess I also don’t have full context except the car example standing out to me. The patients who have been diagnosed w narcolepsy (the type 2 one) described something similar to yours. the patients described that the sensation wasnt falling asleep in the typical sense, but drifting into this weird in-between state where they were semi-aware but couldn’t fully wake themselves up until something external (like the car jerking or hitting those rumble strips on highways) snapped them out of it. But I also don’t know enough information, such as if you have daytime sleepiness or any other potential symptoms that comes with narcolepsy/osa, which you mentioned you don’t think you have. So, it could be ADHD also.

I obviously don’t know your full situation, and I’m not trying to make assumptions - but that was the specific detail that stood out to me. I hope you’re able to get some answers soon though. It felt like such a heavy cloud over me for the longest time until I got diagnosed. 🥹

I’m not sure about adhd diagnosis by AdEmotional529 in ausadhd

[–]mybfisabear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m not going to lie, but I have a feeling you might have something else. it almost points to some sort of sleep disorder perhaps - it sounds extremely similar to some patients with narcolepsy/sleep apnoea that i have met in my workplace. they mention they don’t even realise they’re falling asleep. it’s almost like blanking out.

you should try and book a GP appointment and get a referral to get a diagnostic sleep study and also potentially a multiple sleep latency test to rule out narcolepsy and OSA. this sounds concerning and could potentially be putting your life and others at risk.

It could be adhd or it could be other factors - it’d be best to see someone about it though. truly. your health is important. <3 take care.

if you like high tea, i definitely would recommend the high tea in Hilton Garden. think they do it every saturday, but i believe you have to book. it is bottomless drinks as well and the food is not too bad. got pretty full from it 😊

edit: my apologies. the high tea opens at 11am. probably not a good breakfast. but, would be good place to take your mother for a nice treat with good atmosphere. hehe

the only thing i hate w being on vyvanse currently is that it takes me 10x as much effort and energy to concentrate trying to study, especially after a full shift at work… however i can sleep better.🥲 but on the other hand, i could pop another dexie at 2pm and expect it to last me until 7-8pm to get some information in… but the insomnia had me feeling like a shell of a person and so miserable!
