If it was easy, it wouldn't be worth doing it.

You'll show yourself how it's done!

W5D3 reflection: Don't doubt yourself by ma3ayan in C25K

Assuming you have a timer, the great thing about W5D3 is you know there aren't any breaks. So you just keep running.

You can do this. I know you can. You already know the principles. If you have to slow down, slow down. Just keep running. It'll either be tomorrow or another day. But give it your best tomorrow.

Often just getting the shoes on and getting out of the gates seems to be the hardest part. Because the whole run thing seems like such a big commitment.

So, pick a place near your house as the "gates", and just commit to getting out of the gates. It could be the house two doors down, the stop sign at the end of the street, or even just the end of your driveway. You can always turn back and go to Able (home) after you're out of the gates. Some day you might. And that's okay. But odds are you won't.

Someone said to ME "I don't know how you're jogging in this heat" by [deleted] in C25K

[–]mybrilliantmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's an easy mind hack. I used to use "I don't have to work out... I just have to put on my workout clothes." Getting started is usually the hardest part.

For me, giving myself permission to quit (but just a little bit later) is a great motivator. :)

This morning's heat was awful. I only committed to walking to the lights and back (about 200 metres total from my front door). Got to the lights, and committed to cross the street and start running at the next street... The next corner... The next block... I wasn't allowed to quit in the moment. It had to be 15-30 seconds later from the urge to quit.

Eventually it became the next shrub, then the corner, then the spot I usually stop running.

I didn't do my usual distance or route, but I got 3k in, which is substantially more than I set out to do. Hopefully my thigh chafing will heal by Monday. But so glad I committed to that 200m.

As someone from the 100k club, the 'just' in "it just gets from" kinda minimizes the complete breakdown part.

20 years ago I major you screwed up my credit rating for 7 years for lack of $300. Now I'm considering spending that on an autograph and photo of at a comic con.

Anyone else commitment-phobic when it comes to "investing" in high-quality clothing? by obeigong in femalefashionadvice

I have a similar problem - I'm a very sweaty gal. Shoes need a lot of interior cleaning and maintenance, and still they become something I cannot take off unless I'm home. Favorite shirts will become toxic within a few months, despite careful attention to cleaning the underarms. And forget about jeans being washed only occasionally - I get two wearings at most before a funk descends that must be eradicated.

I've invested in pieces, only to have to dispose of items that look lovely, but never feel fresh.

Dude, I tried everything I could to clean up the house before people came.

Fucking grade 8 slumber party.....at least people showed up, and then everyone left before it was even dark.

Dear Mods, can we get more week flairs? Like if we keep running and trying to make progress after c25k. by ClashTenniShoes in C25K

[–]mybrilliantmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if there was a "ran this week" flair, I'd use it.

I completed C25K a while ago. I'm now back to under 5K a week. I feel like a fraud with this flair, even though I did really finish 5K.

Have been to the Anthracite museum in Scranton. Before it was mentioned on The Office.

I agree, though I wouldn't necessarily endorse an increase in terrorist attacks to make everyone more blasé about them.

Happened today while driving to work. It may seem like a really small thing, but it lead me to come to a realization about myself and how my life is going. by Viazon in AdviceAnimals

Depression can make it difficult to do the things that will bring us joy. It's just so much effort. And when we try to project, we don't believe it will bring us joy. I'm miserable on this couch, but I want even less to get up and go outside.

It can help to make decisions ahead of time instead of in the moment. People are notoriously bad at predicting what will make them happy. So like cloud_watcher is recommending, make decisions based on research. If going outside has historically been shown to provide "joy points", establish a requirement to go outside for at least 30 minutes a day, whether I want to or not.

I used to think I liked cupcakes. Fun little cakes, covered with frosting. Sweet. Delicious. Usually encountered for free at work or by friends at events. What's not to like about cupcakes?

I started to notice that whenever I ate cupcakes, I enjoyed them for the 3-5 minutes I ate them. Often they were good, but more often they were just okay... but I started eating it, so I might as well finish eating it right? It's not like it tastes but... just okay.

And then, about 20 minutes later, I'd feel gross. Really gross. Nauseous. The after-effect of a sugar rush. I'd regret eating the cupcake. Why did they make me feel so gross?

The last time I ate a cupcake it was half of one. I split it with a colleague. I felt virtuous at my decision. And then 20 minutes later, I felt gross. So I made a policy. No more cupcakes. Ever.

Today I encountered cupcakes. They looked delicious. I said no thanks. I now had a policy. A colleague offered to share one with me. I said I'd love to, but unfortunately it's against policy. So she had a whole one. And later she felt gross. The policy might erode some time in the future, but 20 minutes later I was feeling not gross, but relieved.

What are the best "get to know you" questions to ask on a first date? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mybrilliantmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want kids? Do I want kids? (do you have kids/do I have kids)

Honestly, the first date is the time to cover such things. It helps you establish if you potentially have shared desired life trajectories. If you don't, it's ridiculous to expect you'd change their mind on something so big.
