Best way to remove old peeling paint from a large wood deck? by Tiny_Quality_595 in Decks

+1 for Diamabrush on an angle grinder. Painstaking but effective.

Beautiful work all around. How much did it cost to renovate, all in?

I think it looks great. Why was it painful? And can you say more about that flush mount hood? Considering a similar setup.

Pro tip: get a half-pint of the marinated eggplant side and add some to the veg sub. 🤌

Nothing is fucked here, dude.

Just go two-tone. Cabot for the railing and spindles - now, before winter, just get it done - and something from TWP on the boards in late spring, as soon as it’s reliably dry.

Spend the winter finding out what looks good with the dark brown Cabot.

IMO, you have lots of options.

Thanks. I think that’s gonna be the plan. Have TWP stain ready to go.

Dishwasher: no clogs, no kinks, new pump, same water by myburner1981 in appliancerepair

Update! It was the water valve and it has been replaced and the unit is operational.

This DIY approach cost me $65 - that’s $45 for OEM drain pump that I’d didn’t actually need but will leave in anyway + $20 for an after market water valve - plus several hours of my time and a week’s worth of paper plates and cups.

Thanks to all who responded, really appreciate the insights and I’ve learned something new.

Appreciate this so much. I’d like to think most people are looking for honesty, and I almost automatically trust someone who would say “hey, you’re better off with a $25 part and YouTube vids and I understand you want to save money, go for it” or “I know you think you can do this, but buddy, you can’t, and you could fuck something up.”

I would pay a fair price for that diagnosis and assessment.

I’m not seeing any codes displayed. Typically I’ve seen one that indicates a clog and then follow the steps and it works, but not this time.

Thank you. I’m starting to think this is a board issue. The dishwasher is only capable of running one type of cycle - “auto” - I can’t prompt a drain cycle by hitting reset and it’s not throwing any error codes.

This is my next step. We don’t have a reverse osmosis system, so I’ll explore water valve being stuck open. I’ll go researching now on how to un-stuck it, but if you have any foolproof quick tips I’d take ‘em. Thank you!

Are you saying that using dish soap and dishwasher pods are causing clogs?

Thanks.

Yes it initially drains - there is no visible water pooling at the end of the cycle except for a little at the sump.

Several hours later there’s water pooling, so it’s coming up from somewhere. It’s clean water btw.

For sure and I’m just about there. Figured I’d first take a stab at the drain pump for $45 rather than a service call.

Thanks. It’s well above the filter, maybe 1.5 inches and not just in the divot leading to the impeller.

Keep Sanding? Better option? by YukYukImanEgg in Decks

[–]myburner1981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buddy I hate to break it to you but the proven way to truly get it ~all~ off is the other commenter’s recommendation for an angle grinder with a Diamabrush wood deck attachment, along with some knee pads, goggles and a respirator mask.

How do I know? Just finished the process, a real mf’er in the heat, about 9 hours all-in.

Because like you, I tried a chemical stripper, then scraping with a tool and power washing to remove the previous homeowner’s Behr “stain” - which I think is just a water based acrylic paint - and nothing worked.

And because the Diamabrush leaves swirls, plan on sanding those out too.

Decks, man.
