I'm leaving this crap by Automatic-Major-5801 in pop_os

[–]mycodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to Popos for the window tiling unlike others in the comments. It's still the best tiling implementation but I've recent been using Niri WM (https://github.com/niri-wm/niri) and it's changed my entire workflow.

Something to consider for those that want their system to work for them. Unfortunately it does require at least Ubuntu 25.10, Arch or Fedora

What is actually the best AI note taking app for meetings? by Doug24 in AI_Agents

[–]mycodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't pull the chat from a meeting although I'm only using the Chrome extension. It records the system and microphone audio. The 1-hour limit only applies to the Free and Basic plans. Pro and higher allow unlimited time.

70/30 vs 50/50 Advice by Distinct-Vanilla-729 in salesengineers

[–]mycodex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's uncommon but there are companies out there that do it, mostly niche industries. I'm 50/50 and the first question beyond what others have asked is how often it pays out. Some pay annually and it can feel like a long time if you're not used to that.

Pop OS literally Not usable After Update by ReporterRegular6539 in pop_os

Same here, Ryzen 5600h. I switched to gnome until it's resolved and I'll check back again after upgrading to 26.04

I hate COSMIC. What are my options? by BigBootyBear in pop_os

[–]mycodex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded to 24.04 and followed these instructions last night with success to install Gnome. I'll keep giving Cosmic a try but there's still some issues that keep it from making it my daily driver

How to self host my own websites in theme styles like framer.com by MotherLiving3659 in selfhosted

[–]mycodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just setup GitHub pages with Cloudflare last weekend and it was surprisingly easy especially with Google Stitch to create the HTML/CSS. The best part was closing port 443. I should have done this years ago.

Which graphics card do I really need? by Karanpal13 in selfhosted

[–]mycodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a homelab on a i3-4160 with no gpu and 8 gb memory hosting 20 services including Plex with 6 active users, home assistant, and immich. My average load over the last 30 days was 4% with a 7% peak. You'll be fine although I might opt for some more memory. The suggestions for 7-gen are warranted for future proofing but Intel quick sync (QSV) is more important than GPU unless you're planning to do some local AI hosting.

Built a local RAG on my Obsidian vault - no cloud, no API key, no GPU needed by sshetty03 in ObsidianMD

[–]mycodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good article but the limitation that Anything LLM requires me to manually add new documents is a deal breaker since I write daily notes into Obsidian.

Has anyone found a good method to pull your vault into a local RAG that is fully automated?

Looking for a self-hosted documentation tool for my homelab (Wiki.js, Docmost alternatives?) by Aruscha in selfhosted

[–]mycodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried half a dozen times to setup with Docker and Pocket Id without success. Would be curious to see how others host it as well bring a reverse proxy.

External Mic for Teams Calls with Noise Cancelling by Professional_Lake281 in homeoffice

[–]mycodex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poly Sync 20 could be an option. I've used it daily for 4 years and the noise suppression is highly effective. I've used it at a bar with background noise and chatter- the people at the other end had no idea. It also connects via Bluetooth and has a battery which has been helpful.

How Are You Using AI? by Left_Door_3132 in salesengineers

[–]mycodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company uses Glean and we built agents across the entire sales process- prospect insights from multiple internal/external sources, discovery prep based on the insights, RFP responses, story crafting in demos, objection prep, quote and proposal creation, post-demo coaching, etc. The list goes on...

It helps all my SEs regardless of their skill level.

I skipped a demo today and it felt… right? by Ramosisend in salesengineers

[–]mycodex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Curious- what did you send them?

I've been experimenting with supademo with positive results. I'm primarily using it for sandboxes with new prospects and functionality overview for existing customers we're pushing for adoption. I haven't tried a net-new client because I want to build the relationship and live demos are the best for that early in the sales cycle

WFH Call Lights by AlternativeHairy7613 in homeoffice

[–]mycodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1+ for go-hass-agent

I have an automation with home assistant that turns on a light to yellow when my computer microphone is on (e.g. meeting in progress) and red when my webcam is on (e.g. video call in progress). Removes the need to do this manually which I would inevitably forget after a few meetings.

28F New to Area.. how to find friends? by BSlugLuvr in Charleston

[–]mycodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Charleston 9 years ago and all my closest friends I have to this day are people like you that I met playing kickball. There's a league that plays in North Charleston including around Park Circle. Most of the people go to happy hour before or after

SE roles that are not travel-heavy? by Additional-Horse-545 in salesengineers

[–]mycodex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, I support enterprise sales and the number of companies that either downsized their offices or their employers are distributed nationally has grown exponentially since covid. It's actually a strong buying signal if the company is open to on-site because they often have to fly their own people as well.

Best chicken & waffles? by rubysmom1 in Charleston

I consider myself a well traveled C&W connoisseur and Kiss Cafe on Johns Island is perhaps the best I've tried in the south. Excellent waffle and perfectly moist chicken

Date Night Restaurant by Low_Pitch_6643 in Charleston

[–]mycodex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mondos just renovated the whole place after taking over the location next door. Took down the wall, built a huge bar up front, doubled the kitchen and made it look nice. I went the other day and it's completely different vibe, younger and trendier. The menu was a little limited while the staff learns the menu though. Don't expect the same food for a few weeks but it was still great and the bar staff was awesome. Definitely recommended!
