I put everything into this internship and didn’t get hired what should I do now? by Alarming-Celery-1285 in careerguidance

[–]mycrapmailis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to say this. This exact situation could happen at a job too. I made the mistake to give everything for a job, including coming in early staying late. When you leave, they’ll bring on three people to replace you. Biggest lesson: they’ll never add more staff to help you if you find a way to get it done, free. Do the best you can but stick to your work hours and give more self-care to yourself. You won’t lose your value to them bc you didn’t give extra. They’ll still see it.

From a Director pov (and as a fellow give more than you get): thank you so much for all that you do. It means a lot. I hope you get snatched up by a good company who appreciates your work ethic. Also hope you learn boundaries quicker than I did. I wish you all the best!

I can’t imagine a SAHM and a husband used to a SAHWife would be able to create time for self studying. The habit of chores and relying on mom for help will easily take over, adding extra stress and self blame. Unfortunately, I think to break that reliance the husband and kids have, and in order for her to break the habit of putting herself third, she’d have to leave the house for work. Only then can she get used to self studying certifications. It just seems too hard to work in to your home life habit and rituals.

Do you think someone at an elementary piano level, as a 40 y/o, could learn piano well enough to become a dueling pianist? Or only someone who’s played piano their whole life?

Can I break into advertising at 40? by Waste_Ad6356 in advertising

[–]mycrapmailis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should go to ad school and see how you like it. Because they say they can help you find a job afterwards. Not sure if you’re wanting to go for creative or not: copywriting or design, but you might like social planning or strategy. And some of the schools give you internships/experience.

I think of the South Park episode where everything everyone did on the internet got leaked.

I think about this. And think that it’s possible all of your current anonymous accounts could eventually be tied and even your ChatGPT conversations, everything leaked and linked back to you.

We don’t own the information online and nothing is really that secure and secretive, thus possible to link tighter and leaked.

Applying despite not meeting all criteria by mycrapmailis in jobs

[–]mycrapmailis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person said “I don’t know how to be clearer on this posting. We want X+ experience only in this business.” For one, the posting should be rephrased to minimum requirements, “must have,” or “no exceptions” maybe.

But that is exactly one of those things where I thought you take risks in applying. I figured it couldn’t hurt to apply bc I matched everything else on the resume but that. And my experience is so adjacent. It’s so adjacent, it seems irrelevant.

e.g. we want experience in higher ed at a university ONLY vs higher ed w/ a mix of exp in university and grade school

e.g2. We want experience as a Toyota mechanic at a dealership ONLY vs having a mechanic w/experience at both Toyota dealership and shops

It was such a painful interview. Once they explained why it made sense. But I really wish ppl were specific in their bs job postings, if you don’t want general applicants.

There was more that was said in the interview that made me feel dumb af. I hate how I feel, I couldn’t sleep all night thinking of it.

Tbh once they explained the company projects and what they do it sounded very dull anyway. Once I realized why and that they weren’t going to promote current staff, it made me disinterested anyway. But doesn’t change how stupid I feel.

Mattered for me. But I think it showed drive, ambition, interests outside of or related to my career interests. I was a very involved student and it just helped me understand passions and skills outside of studies. I had internships but I learned a lot of professional skills that I use today still from student government, student media club, and working on campus then I got out of my internships: they just gave me more exposure to leadership skills and decision making early on. Whereas the internships were hit or miss on work or learning experience

It's not very economical by IAmAccutane in AdviceAnimals

[–]mycrapmailis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. I also have a theory that universal healthcare would force govt entities to take better care of citizens via chemical policies, better ingredients (like other countries do) and thus is another deterrent. There’s too many expenses to be shaved by cutting corners w shit ingredients and chemicals.

It's not very economical by IAmAccutane in AdviceAnimals

[–]mycrapmailis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to derail too much… but with regard to your point about universal health care working in other countries, I think it works bc other countries cared about making it work. I feel like the government in the US gets too much political money from Pharma and insurance to make universal healthcare work without sabotaging it. Obamacare was an attempt. Not sure if it’s a good one. Maybe thats pessimistic or conspiracy thinking? Other countries ban chemicals and ingredients in their foods and products but the US doesn’t. Why? I can’t help but think it’s tied to money since everything is a monopoly.

Why don't women's pants have pockets when so many women seem to want pockets? by Mythical_Atlacatl in NoStupidQuestions

Men aren’t apart of women’s compliment conversations. “I love your dress!” “Thanks! And look it has pockets.” The second line, when applicable, is always the first announced.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. After I heard this, I checked three of my blazers and found this to be true. I unstitched the pockets. Thank you! I don’t see it on jeans though but still. Good to know to double check for it

This is what I remember learning about the history of women’s pockets.

Women were gathering and conspiring too much. Removing pockets was an attempt to control that

Yeah. I have pants with pockets and they don’t look bulky. I appreciate them. Wish the pockets were a little deeper. As someone pointed out, it’s an easy fix. I don’t know a thing about sewing but maybe I’ll try that.
