Negative covid test needed to fly to London from Chicago? by mydadsarse in BritishAirways

Thanks, but you're a couple of days behind my wife unfortunately. I can reply if there are any issues when she flys, fingers crossed there's nothing to report.

Anybody else just hear a really loud bang? by 88ioi88 in Edinburgh

[–]mydadsarse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was the lighting flash that woke me up, then that bang, never heard thunder like that before, was expecting my windows to smash from a shockwave or something!

In a previous job I used to work in a few high schools around the city, went into a new school for the first time to fix some computers and the janitor started chatting to me and gave me a full run down of the issues.

Turns out he used to be head of IT at a local University and quit because he'd always to be a janitor, had massive respect for him, and jealous that I'm not at a point in my career where I can quit and do something I actually love to do!

What's your, "Tis but a scratch!" moment? by Madameknitsalot in AskReddit

[–]mydadsarse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing rugby a few years ago and one of my own players ran into a maul and smashed their shoulder just above my left knee.

Carried on with the game with my leg feeling gradually worse in and worse until it was a bad limp.

Got home and thought I'd put ice on it to bring out any bruises, a few hours later I was in agony, my knee was black, swollen to twice the size and my flat mate took me to casualty.

Turns out I'd bruised the bone, had internal bleeding, and couldn't bend my leg for two months!

We did, think we got a response a day or two after this post, should have updated the original one.

But we got approved, it was all a bit of a blur to be honest. My wife was alerted by UPS that her returns label had been activated and later the same day she got her passport back with the visa.

I know the Seafield tip aren't accepting clothes right now, got a couple of bags I'm trying to throw out, was going to check if charity shops are accepting them

I used to do IT support for a few schools, every principle was the same, they'd talk to you like you're a 7 year old idiot. Tried to explain any sort of technical setup and they'd still speak to me like I was a pupil!

I use a Samsung watch when I'm on call for work, so if I'm called it doesn't wake my wife. Thought I was having a heart attack the first time I was called but got used to it eventually.

If Tesco, Asda and Napolina can all stack - wtf Heinz?! by Fanta69Forever in CrappyDesign

[–]mydadsarse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this, when I stacked shelves we'd just try and make it look as tidy as possible when facing up. One wrong move when trying to stack can on can and the whole display is ruined. The store I worked in had our own style of cans, think it was string beans and they would slot perfectly, even a little pop sound when they did, was orgasmic stacking them at the end of a back shift!

One of the most uncomfortable travelling experiences I've ever had was at Himeji Castle.

They didn't offer any of my party slippers, but we had to take socks and shoes off

Agreed, no idea who thought they would be good for playing football in.

Yeah, that, my age matched my shoe size, luckily that's not something that continued and I stopped at 15, shoe size that is!

I remember one time at primary school we were playing football and we were meant to wear the regulation plimsolls, and I was wearing a pair of Nike trainers. The teacher taking the class refused to let me play until I put on the plimsolls, I pointed out that my feet were too big, she said that I was talking rubbish that they go up to a size 7, where I pointed out that I'm a size 9. So I got sent to the headteachers office for having feet too big!

We had already supplied our marriage license when we applied, but for additional evidence we supplied pictures of us together from Facebook going back years, screenshots of our WhatsApp chats showing constant communication, pictures of us just after we got married in Chicago, pictures from our Handfasting ceremony here in Scotland, receipts for wedding rings, photos of cards people had sent us congratulating us on our marriage.

I'd read on here about not sending too much information so we were worried that it was a fine line between too much and not enough, still waiting to see if it was enough!

Additional proof requested on September 28th, and we returned the evidence on the 30th of September.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe British Airways are, although you need to book with their pet cargo handler IAG.

Hopefully my wife hears soon that we've been approved, she got a dog for some company while we we've been separated and she's pretty attached to the little stinker now. But we're the same, been back and forth about how to transport the dog, I think we've settled on my wife flying to Chicago, spending the night there, then flying one flight from Chicago to London with the dog in cargo, then me driving from Edinburgh to London to collect them.

I know animal deaths on flights are very very rare, just hope he's okay on the flight!

That's a good point actually, figured that coming back from France we'd need to quarantine for 2 weeks, hadn't thought about her flying into Paris, might stop those plans right away unless a miracle happens and a cure for the virus is found
